My name? Katlego Lesego, kept doves from childhood out of love, around the age of 10yrs, I'd keep any dove in my bird house not minding its colors. At the time they were sold around P5 to P7 depending on the color, pure white ones and brown ones where the most liked and most expensive. Back then every backyard in Botswana had these beautiful birds, but over the years they seemed to slowly become scarce in people's backyards. This was mostly because people began to think they are just useless and costly to keep as compared to other birds.
Most began to be homeless, but the doves being wise they would group themselves to form families or flocks. These flocks still exist today in famous places like Main Mall, Village flats near University of Botswana and the birds seem to be doing well as they naturally have sharpened survival instincts.
As for my birds, oh yes, I still had them but was really financially feeling the burden from them as I had hundreds of them and they eat a lot. Had to think of ways to make enough money to feed them.Decided to give the colored ones away to friends and cousins who had interest in keeping them but only remained with 4 pure white doves. Why did I choose to remain with pure white doves you asked? After thorough research on doves. I discovered that white doves carry with them strong symbolic meanings such as love, hope, peace and new beginnings to those who come in contact with them.
Thought of it from a business perspective to commercialize my hobby and that's how The Bird's NEST business came about. The Bird's NEST is a home to white doves. We breed them for symbolic meanings to enhance the meaning behind any occasion. The Bird's NEST basically offers 2 kinds of services: WHITE DOVE RELEASE AND DISPLAY SERVICES. Today The Bird's NEST has attended over 30 of Batswana's events from wedding, memorial services to parties. The white birds shower blessings, give people hope, symbolize peace, happiness and new beginnings.
