5 Communication Activities Parents Can Do at Home
Building communication starts with simple daily interactions. Try these easy activities to support your child’s speech and language development:
1️⃣ Turn-Taking Games – Roll a ball, stack blocks, or clap hands back and forth to teach waiting and responding.
2️⃣ Object Naming – Name everyday items while pointing to them (“cup,” “spoon,” “shoe”) to build vocabulary.
3️⃣ Picture Pointing – Use books or flashcards and ask your child to point to objects you mention.
4️⃣ Action Imitation – Encourage copying actions like waving, jumping, or blowing kisses to strengthen expressive skills.
5️⃣ Choice-Making – Offer two options (“apple or biscuit?”) and encourage pointing, signing, or verbal responses.
Consistency matters — short, daily practice makes a powerful difference over time.
