‼️Losing lambs or kids suddenly, It Could Be Contagious Abortion‼️
‎Don’t let your hard work go to waste!

‎Contagious abortion in goats and sheep is a silent profit killer— caused by bacteria like Brucella, Chlamydia or Q fever. It spreads fast through aborted fetuses, placenta, and dirty hands or boots. You may see sudden abortions, weak newborns, or no signs at all — until it’s too late.

‎How it spreads:
‎– Infected placenta, fetuses & fluids
‎– Dirty boots, tools & hands
‎– Close contact with sick animals

‎Protect your farm:
‎– Isolate sick animals
‎– Burn or bury aborted materials
‎– Disinfect pens
‎– Quarantine new stock
‎– Work with your animal health technician on testing & proper vaccination

‎‼️At Native Feeds, we’re here to help you fight back‼️
‎Let’s talk animal health, nutrition & biosecurity.

🚨FARMER ALERT🚨

Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP): A Serious threat to your goats this rainy season! 🌧

The rainy season brings relief from the heat, but it also creates the perfect conditions for the spread of Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP)—a highly infectious respiratory disease affecting goats.

What is CCPP?
CCPP is caused by the bacterium Mycoplasma capricolum subspecies capripneumoniae (Mccp).
It spreads rapidly through direct contact, coughing, and contaminated surfaces, making communal grazing areas and shared water points high-risk zones.

⚠ Signs to Watch For:
- Severe coughing & difficulty breathing (labored, painful respiration)
- Nasal discharge & frothy saliva
- Loss of appetite & sudden weight loss
- Fever & lethargy
- Sudden deaths within the herd

How to Prevent CCPP?
✅ Vaccination– Ensure your herd is vaccinated against CCPP.
✅ Quarantine new goatsbefore introducing them to your flock.
✅ Improve ventilation in shelters to reduce the spread of infection.
✅ Avoid overcrowding and minimize stress among animals.
✅ Early detection & isolation of sick goats to prevent further spread.

Treatment
Once symptoms appear, CCPP can be fatal if not managed promptly. Consult a veterinarian immediately for antibiotic treatment and supportive care.

At Native Feeds Company, we provide expert livestock services, including disease management, nutrition, and farm consultancy. Protect your herd this rainy season, prevention is always better than cure!

🚨 *FARMER ALERT* 🚨
At Native Feeds Company, we understand the challenges that come with livestock farming, especially during the rainy season. One of the most common and costly diseases affecting hooved animals during wet conditions is Footrot!

What is Footrot?
Footrot is a highly contagious and infectious bacterial disease that affects the hooves of livestock mainly smallstock, causing lameness, pain, and production losses. It thrives in wet and muddy conditions, making the rainy season a high-risk period. In Setswana it is called ( Tlhakwana).

Causes of Footrot
✅Caused by two bacteria : Bacteroides nodosus and Fusobacterium necrophorum
✅ Prolonged exposure to wet, muddy ground
✅ Injury or cracks in the hoof, allowing bacteria to enter
✅ Poor hoof care and hygiene
✅ Overcrowding in damp pens

Symptoms to Watch For
🔴 Lameness or reluctance to walk
🔴 Swollen, red, and painful hooves
🔴 Foul-smelling discharge between the hooves
🔴 Separation of hoof wall.
🔴 Reduced appetite resulting in loss of body weight.

Teatment of Footrot
💊 Early Intervention is Key! If you notice signs of Footrot:
✔ Isolate affected animals to prevent spread of infection.
✔ Trim infected hooves carefully to remove dead tissue
✔ Apply antiseptics or antibiotic sprays to the affected area
✔ Use footbaths with zinc sulfate or copper sulfate
✔ Administer antibiotics as prescribed by a veterinarian
✔ Keep affected animals in dry, clean areas until healed

Preventive Measures for Farmers
🌱 Maintain dry, clean pastures and pens– Avoid waterlogged areas
👩‍⚕ Regular hoof inspections & trimming – Prevent injuries and infections
🦶 Use footbaths regularly – Zinc sulfate or formalin solutions help
🐑 Separate infected animals– Control the spread of bacteria
💉 Vaccination – Consult your animal health technician.
🥩 Proper nutrition – A well-fed animal has a stronger immune system

Our Story

Healthy Delights is an agribusiness company lead by a young passionate farmer who wants to find solutions that are beneficial to the agricultural sector and empowering rural communities using agriculture

Healthy Delights have products and services for small holder farmers in rural areas

Products – we manufacture livestock feeds using indigenous trees and by-products. We have feeds for small stock, cattle and chickens (mixed fowl). We have a feed that helps treat internal worms in goats and sheep.

Services – We have a mobile service where we offer livestock health & nutrition advisory, access to vaccines, feeds and market. We also organize agricultural events to educate small holder farmers on how to go from subsistence farming to commercial farming, to empower rural communities using agriculture and to develop the value chain approach.
