Two shot dead in broad daylight – Gun violence escalates in Belize City
Gunmen struck twice in broad daylight on Sunday, leaving two men dead in separate shootings just hours apart.
The first attack happened near Titanic Night Club on the Philip Goldson Highway, where gunmen in a mysterious vehicle ambushed a silver Ford Explorer pickup carrying three men. The driver, 22-year-old Joseph Lee Garcia, tried to escape but lost control, crashing into KHMH’s entrance.
Security footage shows emergency personnel rushing to the scene, where Garcia was found fatally wounded. His two passengers, Ronlee Petillo and Shamar Faber, were injured but survived. Police recovered 16 expended shells from the area.
A few hours later, another execution-style shooting took place on Robinson Lane, where 42-year-old Rafael Antonio Casares was gunned down inside his home. Reports suggest the intended target was his brother, but Casares was shot instead.
The shooter fled the scene, and police have yet to make any arrests. Authorities are now working to determine whether these two murders were connected or part of ongoing street violence.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
