Happy World Sight Day!

With Children's Eye Health at the center of this year's event, BCVI partnered with Pediatric Ophthalmologist Dr. Millicent Peterseim and MUSC for a week-long school eye health screening in Belize. Thanks to this initiative, close to 1,000 students were screened in Carmelita, Santa Martha, San Jose and Chan Pine Ridge Villages in the Orange Walk District of Belize. There are no local eye clinics and residents rely on BCVI's outreach visits to access care.

Without partnerships and services like these many children globally would not have access to eye care. We remain thankful to our staff, volunteers and donors who work tirelessly to care for and improve the lives of our Belizeans!

"A Universe of Words" is how Rowland Parks, a dear client of BCVIs, was described as he received the Zee Edgell Prize for Literary Arts. This outstanding recognition for his lifelong contributions in journalism and poetry was awarded to Mr Parks by NICH and the Government of Belize as part of Belize's 43rd Independence Day Celebrations 🇧🇿

Our favourite Scottish Surgeons are back and performing specialized eye surgery not otherwise available in Belize 🇧🇿

Dr Z Koshy and Dr L Webb helped to implement the country's first Vitrectomy Programme at BCVI exactly one year ago. Since then, dozens of patients have been treated thanks to them and our fantastic team of Retinologists who visit Belize to provide this very complex tertiary-level surgery 👨‍⚕️

Without our partners World Pediatrics & World Pediatrics -Belize, babies and young children in Belize would not have access to sight-restoring treatment. Thanks to this decades-long partnership, children identified throughout the year by BCVI are able to receive specialized services such as cataract and strabismus surgery. This dream team has become part of our family and we are all so fortunate to know them 👩‍⚕️💙
