Belize City, Belize – October 20th, 2025 – Alliance Medical Services Corporation is proud to announce a groundbreaking achievement in local healthcare: the successful completion of the first-ever laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) performed on Ambergris Caye, at our Ambergris Hope Hospital facility.

The procedure was successfully carried out on Ms. Iris Belisle, 42 years old, who was diagnosed and treated for Cholelithiasis (gallstones) by Dr. Munguia, a highly skilled surgeon dedicated to bringing advanced surgical care to the island community.

Advancing Healthcare Through Innovation
Laparoscopic, or “keyhole,” surgery represents a modern, minimally invasive approach that utilises small incisions and a specialised camera. This technique offers numerous benefits, including: faster recovery time, minimal scarring, less postoperative pain and shorter hospital stay.

Thanks to this innovative surgical method, Ms. Belisle was able to undergo her procedure as a day case, who was admitted in the morning and safely discharged home just hours after recovery.

This historic operation marks a transformative moment for healthcare in San Pedro,
demonstrating the island’s growing capacity to provide advanced surgical services close
