The Ministry of Health & Wellness, with technical and financial support from UNICEF Belize and Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission/Organization of American States (CICAD/OAS), today concluded our training on Stigma, Discrimination, and Adolescent-Friendly Services Towards Substance Misusers, an initiative created to close gaps in service accessibility for adolescents at risk of or struggling with substance misuse.

We recognize the need to equip frontline providers with adolescent friendly approach services that are non-judgmental, confidential, and tailored to the unique needs of our young people.

A stronger workforce delivering inclusive, evidence based care that is more accessible and compassionate to reduce stigma in our communities.

Healthier adolescents empowered to thrive and contribute positively to Belize’s future. Together, we are creating safer spaces, stronger services, and brighter futures for all.

This past week, Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness, and Dr. Andrei Chell, Director of Policy, Planning and Research, represented Belize at the International Forum on Human Resources for Health (HRH) in the Americas, being held in Brasília, Brazil, from July 23–25, 2025.

This high-level meeting, convened by PAHO/WHO and partners, brought together ministers, technical leaders, and health planners to address the urgent need for stronger, more equitable and resilient health workforces across the region.

Belize’s participation highlights our country’s continued commitment to strengthen health workforce, governance and planning and
also to advance universal health coverage through well-trained, well-supported professionals among others.

The Ministry remains steadfast in its mission to build a health system that is responsive, people-centered, and ready to meet both current and future health challenges.

Our ongoing Continuous Medical Education (CME) training on malaria and dengue for the public and private sector took us up north today. The training focuses on strengthening surveillance and clinical management of dengue and malaria and at this critical time of the year as we enter the rainy season.
