Belize at the IDB Regional Policy Dialogue on Governance and Quality in Health Systems

The Ministry of Health & Wellness is pleased to share that Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness, and Dr. Julio Sabido, Chief Executive Officer, represented Belize at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Regional Policy Dialogue held on September 9th-11th in Medellin Colombia.

Over two days, the Minister and CEO highlighted Belize’s ongoing reforms, including the Belize Health Sector Strategic Plan 2025–2034 and the forthcoming Belize Quality Policy for Health (2025–2030). They also engaged with regional counterparts on strategies to strengthen leadership, governance, accountability, and quality in health systems.

Key messages from the dialogue:
• Embedding quality and governance in long-term national strategies ensures sustainability.
• Community health workers and local health committees play a vital role in accountability and service delivery.
• Digital health initiatives, such as the Clinical Data Exchange Platform and the National Digital Health Strategy, support transparency and coordination.

The Ministry remains committed to advancing a resilient, high-performing health system that places people at the center of care.
