Women’s Empowerment Tea Party for Seniors hosted by the National Council on Ageing at the Black Orchid Resort, Burrell Boom
On Thursday, March 26th, a group of incredible women gathered to share stories, wisdom, laughter, and quiet moments of healing. The Women’s Empowerment Tea Party created a gentle space for reflection, reminding every woman that “Her voice, Her rights, Her legacy” truly matter.
With in-depth guided support by our facilitator, Dr. Kristcha DeGuerre and assistant, Ms. Drischelle Spence, participants explored themes of grief and life changes, loneliness and the power of connection, the unseen emotional labor women carry, self‑compassion, rest, and honoring one’s own journey.
From heartfelt conversations to affirmations, the day celebrated the strength, resilience, and legacy of Belizean women. As one reflection from our booklet reminds us:
“Even after many changes, I am still more than what life has taken. I am still whole.”
We extend our gratitude to every woman who joined us, Living Independently in Full Existence - LIFE, VOICE Belize City, YWCA, HelpAge Belize City, Ladyville Seniors, Senior Steps, your presence made the space meaningful, supportive, and full of grace. To our presenter, Mrs. Cynthia Yacab-Williams, MA Dev for providing insight on the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). To UNDP Belize, thank you for providing transportation on the EV Bus to those who travelled from Belize City.
May we continue to uplift one another, stay connected, and honor the stories that shape us.
