On Friday November 28th we held our Annual Panel discussion for 16 Days of Activism, this was another great night with our panel discussing gender-based violence. It was an informative session filled with valuable advice, featuring Ms Pop from the Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit and Ms. Williams from Human Development. Grateful for community members who attended as well as the insights shared and the meaningful dialogue.

Patriotic Building Decoration Competition at IJC(Independence Junior College)
On September 8th at 4:00 p.m., the Senior Librarian proudly served as a judge in the Patriot Decoration Competition held at Independence Junior College. The event showcased the creative and patriotic talents of both students and lecturers, who came together to decorate the Business and Science Buildings in celebration of Belize’s festive September season.
This initiative encouraged collaboration between departments and highlighted the vibrant national spirit on campus. Students, guided by their teachers, transformed the college spaces with colorful, meaningful decorations that reflected their pride and love for their country.
The event was a vivid reminder of the unity and creativity that define IJC’s community during this important time of national celebration.

Independence High School Reading Competition

The Independence Public Library, in collaboration with the Independence Village Council and Independence High School, hosted an engaging reading competition aimed at promoting literacy and academic excellence among students on 8th September in celebration of international literacy day.
The event saw spirited participation from a total of 15 students 8 from First Form and 7 from Second Form who competed within their respective grade levels. Each student showcased their reading skills, comprehension, and confidence in front of peers and teachers.
In the First Form division, Ilsy Parahm emerged as the 1st place winner, while Alyssa Watson claimed 1st place in the Second Form division.

The organizers commend all participants for their enthusiasm and commendable performances. Events like these continue to foster a love for reading and lifelong learning within the community.

International Literacy Day Celebration – Story reading.
In celebration of International Literacy Day, on September 8th the students of Standard 3 – Tr. Celine, Tr. Ike and Tr. Sara classes at Independence Primary School were treated to a special storytelling session and arts and craft session by our senior librarian.
