ABOUT JULIETTE NADEAU
I grew up in rural Manitoba, spent a few adult years in Winnipeg, and moved to a small town when it was time to raise a family. I worked at the University of Manitoba for over 35 years (mostly in the libraries and later in the legal office), then made the decision to retire early. I wanted a better life – to do more of what I truly enjoyed: travel, read, expand my gardening skills, listen to classical music, practice yoga, and relax with a glass of red wine. I had been practicing yoga regularly since 2011 and becoming a yoga instructor seemed like a good fit for me. In 2019, I began guiding yoga classes as a substitute teacher. I decided to enroll in the 200-hour yoga teacher training program from Serene Yoga Studio in Winnipeg (a CYA Gold Yoga School) and received my certification in 2021. By then, I had already been teaching on a weekly basis. I continue my professional development by working toward the 500-hour advanced teacher training program. I am passionate about the value of yoga on and off the mat and want to share this passion with others. For more information or to register for a class, please email yogaforyoumanitoba@outlook.com

Yoga for who? Yoga for YOU!

Do you have aches and pains or tightness?

Do you want to prep your body for sports, yard work, or any other physical activity?

Do you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, stressed out? Is your mind always racing?

Or is there too much negativity in your life? Need some “me” time?

Join a Yoga for You class! Yoga might be the pick-me-up your mind and body craves. The yoga I teach is gentle yet invigorating. You’ll have the opportunity to increase your range of motion, stretch and strengthen your muscles, improve your flexibility and coordination, and cultivate some balance and stability.

You might also learn to notice your breath, slow down your busy mind, reduce your stress level, recharge your battery and gain a more positive outlook on life.

Just as importantly, you may come to appreciate yourself AS YOU ARE and feel confident as you focus on what your body is able to do.

Women and men and mature teens are welcome – with or without yoga experience. People of all shapes and sizes and abilities can practice yoga.

If you’re an older adult, participating in yoga and staying fit may help you maintain your independence longer. If you have sore knees or other joints, you can still practice yoga by using a blanket or towel to ease the pressure, or you can do some postures on a chair or with the help of a wall.

I teach poses in a way that takes safety into consideration. Adjustments, modifications or variations will be suggested, or a different pose will be offered, based on your needs. There are always options!

WHAT KIND OF YOGA?
Yoga for You classes incorporate aspects of Hatha yoga (postures and breathing exercises) and some Vinyasa yoga (poses that flow from one to another). There will be a focus on coordinating movement with breath while maintaining body awareness and proper alignment.

The yoga I teach is gentle yet invigorating. My yoga classes will generate some heat, burn some calories, and will include a variety of postures to work on your range of motion, strength, endurance, core, flexibility, stability, balance, coordination, posture, alignment, concentration, and confidence. Classes will also offer you a mind-calming experience to give you a break from the hectic pace of the world. After a session, you will feel rejuvenated but also relaxed (yogaaaahhh).

CLASS ETIQUETTE
Let me know if you are new to yoga, if you have any serious health issues or injuries that may affect your yoga practice, or if you are pregnant. Consult with your doctor before starting a yoga program.

What to bring: Please bring a yoga mat, one or two blankets/large bath or beach towels, a 6-foot yoga belt (or a long suit tie or pants belt), and two yoga blocks. A belt and blocks are NOT essential, but you may find them helpful to attain proper alignment, to reach the full expression of a pose, and to reduce the risk of injury. You can also bring an eye pillow for Savasana if you like.

Because we breathe deeply during yoga classes, avoid wearing strongly scented products.

Wear loose-fitting or stretchy clothing that makes you feel comfortable. Yoga is done barefoot.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts to settle in and relax.

Turn off any electronics to help you remain focused throughout the class.

WHAT IS YOGA?
Yoga is an ancient discipline that began about 5,000 years ago and has since been adopted by many practitioners across the globe. Yoga continues to surge in popularity, both for its physical benefits as well as its mind-calming effects. Yoga encourages body awareness and inner awareness. It connects the body, the mind, and the breath. Yoga helps us learn to live in the moment and to appreciate simplicity, all while toning and stretching the body. The yoga practice is made up of many different postures that are done in various positions, such as standing, sitting and lying down.

Yoga is not a religion but a philosophy. For some, yoga is simply about stretching and breathing in specific postures. For others, it becomes a way of life as they try to become better persons and improve the world by showing kindness, encouraging peace and striving for harmony. Yoga is a personal journey - Yoga for You!
