✨ Rewiring Presence:
Shifting Out of Autopilot
Move your body to rewire your brain 🧠
Exercise #3: Find Your Voice 🗣
Have you ever gotten to the bottom of a page in a book and realized you have absolutely no idea what you just read?
Your eyes scanned the words, but your mind was completely elsewhere.
That’s silent autopilot.
Today, let’s break that loop by making a little noise.
The Invitation:
Pick up a book (or anything to read- even an old email).
For even just 5 minutes, read it out loud.
Not a whisper — use your full, normal speaking voice.
What’s Happening Inside?
When we read silently, it’s a mostly visual process that the brain can easily automate.
Reading out loud is a multi-tasking event for your nervous system.
You have to visually process the words, engage the motor cortex to move your mouth and tongue, and use your auditory
cortex to hear yourself speak.
You are forcing 3 different brain systems to cooperate in real-time.
The Somatic Shift:
From a healing perspective, this is about taking up space Audibly.
Many of us, especially if we have a history of trauma or needing to “stay small” to be safe, are not used to hearing our own voice in a quiet room.
It can feel surprisingly vulnerable!
The physical vibration of your voice in your chest and throat is a somatic anchor.
It pulls you out of the silent, spinning thoughts in your head and into the physical reality of the room.
You are literally speaking the present moment into existence.
👉 Give it a try!
Did hearing your own voice feel strange, powerful, or a mix of both?
