🚫 Why You Should Not Use a Sweat Scraper in Hot Weather Cooling

Sweat scrapers remove excess water, which can be counterproductive during the cooling process. Here’s why:
šŸ’§Water acts as a heat sink — as it evaporates or is rinsed off and replaced with cooler water, it draws heat away from the horse’s body.
šŸ’§Scraping the water off too soon interrupts the conduction process that removes heat.
šŸ’§Studies (including research from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics) have shown that continuous application of cold water without scraping was more effective for reducing core temperature in overheated horses.

In short: Let the water run, reapply often, and don’t scrape it off during the cooling phase. Scraping can be done after the horse’s temperature is normalized, simply to remove excess moisture for drying.

I’ve been reflecting on something that’s been quietly sitting in my heart. In this beautiful field of healing and connection—where we work with horses, energy, intuition, and presence—I’ve noticed how easy it is to fall into the belief that we have to protect what we’ve created. That we must keep our approaches close to our chest. That sharing might somehow diminish our value. But here’s what I believe with every fiber of my being: we are not in competition, we are in sacred communion. There are not enough of us to reach all the souls who are quietly waiting. There is no shortage of hearts that need healing. No shortage of children, adults, or families who are seeking exactly the kind of work that flows through us. And what we do is too important, too sacred, to be hoarded. Sharing our insights, our practices, and even the simplest of exercises doesn’t take away from us. It amplifies the ripple. It shines a greater light on the field we are all trying to nourish. This is a gentle invitation to open our hands a little wider. To trust that what’s meant for us will always find us—and that supporting one another only strengthens the collective impact we can have in this world. We rise by lifting each other. We grow by giving. And we heal by remembering—we’re in this together.
