Phase 1 treatment included expander on the top with a tongue crib + brackets on the 4 incisors. No treatment in the lower arch.

The red marks on the roof of the mouth are from the indent of the expander sitting there for months. It doesn't hurt even though it looks red and will go away in a few days.

This was a patient who only pursued phase 1 expansion + a 2x4 (aka ortho talk for alignment of the 4 front adult teeth) at this time. Because they were a little older than I traditionally like for phase 1 we didn't want them to burn out with extended treatment time while waiting for teeth to come in. So we did some expansion / a bit of alignment to help jump the anterior crossbite and got out - in about 8 months. Now we can just wait and watch the permanent teeth finishing coming in and lower jaw growth before assessing for final bite correction and tooth alignment. We didn't do treatment on the lower - expanding the upper allowed the lower teeth to naturally upright over time as well!
