The Happy Hoofer

The Happy Hoofer Updates on our services, the great cows we meet, the people we work with, and educating the public o

The Happy Hoofer company emigrated to CANADA over 26 years ago at the request of Canadian farmers that liked the new, safer, more humane service they offered for hoof trimming/care. Owner Kevin Hinton trained in Oregon & has been Hooftrimming since 1989. Offering emergency/short notice lame cow service, and regular hoof trimming herd maintenance. Our hoof trimmer always has an additional employee with him to ensure that we keep your cows on schedule, get them in and out fast, and to ensure a stress free efficient visit. A proud member of the Hoof Trimmers Association, and the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you so much to everyone (clients, friends, football colleagues, and family) who made it out for my surprise 60th birthday party on Sunday. It was a great time, and made me feel very loved. Special thanks to my kids and wife who planned it, and to Straiton Community Hall & Outlaws Smokehouse who provided the amazing food and venue. I will be thinking of you all while I am sunning in Florida next month;)

NEWS RELEASE: B.C. FARMERS AND RANCHERS CALL ON GOVERNMENT TO RECOGNIZE THE AGRICULTURE SECTOR AS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE

Nearly 70 farmers, ranchers and industry leaders from across British Columbia are in Victoria today, bringing forward practical solutions to priorities on topics such as safeguarding the sector’s need for the temporary foreign worker program, securing access to water, and the mounting pressures on farmland and competing jurisdictions. These issues are putting local farms — and B.C.’s supply of food and other agricultural products — at risk.

Today’s post is golden oldie that we found in the back of the filing cabinet this morning🤣 This passport & pic were from 1987 when Kevin & his dad Jim emigrated to Canada to bring the new upright hooftrimming chute to Fraser Valley farmers, some of whom we still trim for to this day!

Well, today was a day. We had a client from Kamloops bring a Brahma Bull down to Abbotsford for us to urgently trim before he was headed off to a rodeo in Alberta, and well, you can tell from the pictures, “you can’t take the rodeo out of the bull”. The bull clearly worked up from the ride down ended up busting through our staff, a fence & gate at a local Matsqui farm and made it out onto the Abby/Sumas Hwy. Luckily, the bull and commuters are all safe, and thanks to the local farmers and veterinary staff, the bull is securely back on the road again with his very relieved owner. We appreciate everyone’s kindness and patience during a tense few hours. It’s amazing how many people yelled hello and called us by name as they passed by. I guess 38 years in the Fraser Valley Agriculture business will do that. The best part of this story is that we advocated for it not to be put down, and he still got his feet trimmed after all the drama. A shoutout to both Frank & Wilma for bringing the heavy equipment from farms on either side of the highway.
