Barbecues are fun for humans, let’s keep it safe and fun for our furry family members too!

🍖 Food Hazards

• Cooked bones: Especially chicken or rib bones— they can splinter and cause choking or internal injuries.
• Fatty meats: Can lead to pancreatitis, a painful and dangerous condition.
• Corn cobs: A common BBQ leftover-can cause intestinal blockages if swallowed.

🔥 Grill and Heat Dangers

• Hot grills: Pets can burn themselves on the grill or hot coals.
• Skewers: Pets may chew or swallow wooden or metal skewers, causing internal injuries.
• BBQ Bristles: Loose brush bristles can get stuck in your pets gums and intestines.

✅ Safety Tips

• Keep pets away from the grill area.
• Provide a quiet, shaded spot with water.
• Watch food and trash closely.
• Ask guests not to feed your pets.
• Microchip and ID tag your pets in case they get loose.

It’s been a little while but this Townline Tuesday we want to spend a few moments talking about our newest receptionist!

🐾 Meet Linda – she’s been working with animals for the past 18 years, mostly in pet store settings, caring for everything from dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and skinny pigs to birds (from finches to conures), reptiles, and all kinds of fish 🐠 (just not the creepy crawlies 😅).

A few things Linda loves:
🐶 Chihuahuas + cats
🦖 Godzilla & Mothra
🐾 Leash training her new kitten for adventures at Mill Lake
🎬 Watching every movie at the theater
👩‍👧‍👦 She’s a proud mom of 2, grandma of 2, and has a Grand Doggy too! 🐕

☀️ Summer Weather Safety for Dogs! 🐶💦

With the summer heat just beginning to here is a friendly reminder of what to look for in regards to heat stress in your pets:

😓 Heavy panting & drooling
👅 Bright red gums
🥴 Wobbliness or weakness
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea
😵 Collapse or seizures

🧊 If you see any signs:
➡️ Move to shade or A/C
➡️ Offer cool water
➡️ Cool the pet with very cold water
➡️ Call your vet ASAP

🚫 NEVER leave your dog in a parked car — not even for a minute! Temperatures inside vehicles can be very dangerous in the summer months reaching up to double what it is outdoors!

When taking your little ones for a walk remember that if it’s too hot outside for you it’s definitely too hot for your furry family members.

Keep it cool this summer. Your pup’s life could depend on it! For any questions you have in regards to heat stress and pet safety please don’t hesitate to reach out via message or phone call! 🐾❤️

🦠 Tick Season is Here: Keep Your Pets Safe! 🦠
As the weather warms up, ticks are becoming more active—and they’re not just a threat to humans.

These tiny pests can also put your pets at risk.
It’s important to make sure your pet is on the right tick prevention plan to suit their lifestyle. We’re here to recommend the best options for your furry friend!

After outdoor activities, remember to check your pet’s fur for ticks, especially around the ears, neck, and paws. If you do find a tick, remove it carefully with fine-tipped tweezers. If you're unsure or worried, don’t hesitate to bring your pet in for a check-up.

Keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms like fever, lameness, or loss of appetite, especially after your pet has been outside. If you notice anything concerning, get in touch with us right away.

Your pet’s health and safety are our top priority! 🐾 Let’s keep them happy, healthy, and tick-free.

📞 Give us a call to discuss tick prevention options and ask about our free tick remover tool the next time you're in!
