With over 35 years of supporting families, I’m sharing three simple, neuro-affirming strategies you can try this winter to ease daily friction for children with ADHD.
1) Sensory-friendly routines: offer calm spaces, weighted blankets, or quiet fidget before busy moments — these reduce sensory overload and help regulation, making mornings and homework smoother.
2) Scaffolded transitions: give 2–3 clear steps and gentle countdowns when moving activities; this predicts change and lowers stress for both kids and caregivers.
3) Visual time cues: use timers, visual schedules, or color-coded clocks to show how long activities last — this improves time awareness and cooperation.
These tips are rooted in CBT and play therapy approaches we use at the clinic to build skills and family ease.
