Doing Family Right "Maximizing Your Most Important Relationships" Whether you’re looking for healing, growth, or encouragement, you don’t have to walk alone.

About Doing Family Right
Doing Family Right (DFR) is a faith-based counseling and recovery ministry helping people strengthen their most important relationships—marriage, family, and faith. Through individual, couples, and family counseling, recovery groups for sexual addiction and betrayal trauma, and practical online resources, we provide real hope and real tools for lasting change. Our mission is to help you build a stronger marriage, a healthier family, and a deeper walk with God—one step at a time. Doing Family Right: Helping you maximize your most important relationships.

You don’t have to be in the same room to experience real growth.

DFR life coach Merri Ellen Giesbrecht shares how meaningful and impactful sessions can still happen, even when clients are connecting from a completely different place.

What matters most isn’t the location, it’s the willingness to show up, engage, and take a step forward.

At Doing Family Right, we’re grateful to walk alongside people wherever they are. Whether in person in Abbotsford or Chilliwack or online, support is closer than you think.

Families matter deeply, and investing in them is always worth it.

Our care team has a heart for families. We’ve seen how even a few intentional conversations can begin to shift things and bring more connection and a renewed sense of hope into a home.

Sometimes it just helps to have someone come alongside you in a space where you can feel heard and take a step forward together.

Whether you’re connecting with us in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, or online, our desire is simple: to help you build stronger, healthier relationships in your family, with God at the centre.

In every relationship, there will be moments that test our patience, our grace, and our willingness to forgive.

Scripture reminds us that forgiveness isn’t just a feeling—it’s a choice. One that reflects the same grace we’ve been given.

In marriage, in family, and in everyday interactions, choosing to forgive creates space for healing, growth, and restored connection.

At Doing Family Right, we believe that strong relationships aren’t built on perfection, but on a willingness to extend grace again and again.

In this week’s reel, DFR counsellor Rachelle Siemens (MA, RCC) shares how her journey of supporting first responders began with taking a course out of interest, and how that grew into a deep passion for walking alongside first responders and their families.

As a first responder’s wife herself, Rachelle understands the unique pressures, sacrifices, and realities these families face.

At Doing Family Right, we’re grateful for counsellors who are not only trained, but personally connected to the people they serve.

Our Doing Family Right team is truly privileged to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families as they pursue healing, growth, and stronger relationships.

Hearing how people have been encouraged and equipped along the way reminds us why this work matters so deeply. Every story of renewed hope, restored connection, and families choosing to fight for what matters most is something we’re incredibly grateful for.

In this week’s reel, DFR counsellor Anna Brotzel (MA, RCC) shares how creating space for neurodivergent teens in therapy often begins with something simple but powerful: paying attention to their sensory needs.

For some teens, that might mean moving, standing, fidgeting, or adjusting their environment so they can feel regulated and at ease. Anna understands that when she makes room for these needs, it helps build the trust and safety needed for meaningful conversations and growth.

Creating a supportive environment allows clients to show up as they are and engage in the healing process in a way that works for them.

It’s an exciting season at Doing Family Right as our counselling team continues to grow with professionals who truly have a heart for walking alongside and supporting their clients.

We are grateful to welcome Danielle Martens and Vicki Middleton to the DFR counselling team.

Danielle is passionate about a holistic approach to wellness, helping individuals, couples, and families pursue healing that considers the mind, body, and spirit. Her desire is to support clients as they find peace, hope, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

Vicki works primarily with women seeking greater stability, clarity, and connection in their lives and relationships. Her approach is grounded, relational, and practical, helping clients understand themselves more deeply and change patterns that no longer serve them.

We are thankful for the growing team of counsellors at DFR who are committed to helping people move toward healing, growth, and stronger relationships.

Sometimes feeling stuck can make you question your worth or wonder if things will ever change.

This week, DFR Counsellor Leanne Novakowski (MEd, RCC) shares a powerful reminder: God loves you with an everlasting love, and nothing you do can stop that.

When circumstances feel heavy, hold onto what’s true. You are valuable. You are loved. And this season doesn't need to define your future.

Silence is where addiction grows.

If you’re struggling with p*rnography or sexual addiction, you are not alone. Asking for help is the first and most important step toward freedom.

In this week’s video, Dr. Dave reminds us that every recovery journey begins the same way. Someone chooses to reach out.

At Doing Family Right, we offer recovery support for every part of the journey:

ReGroup Men’s Recovery for men seeking freedom

FLAIR Women’s Recovery for women who are struggling

P.E.R.G.E. Partner Recovery for those walking through betrayal and hurt

You don’t have to carry this alone.

Learn more about each of these recovery groups through the link below and take your first step toward healing today.
