For many people, the holiday season can stir up grief, sadness, or a heaviness that’s hard to explain.

In this week’s reel, Merri Ellen Giesbrecht, Certified Life Coach (MSLC), shares a faith-centered perspective on depression and grief. She reminds us that our emotions are important messengers, helping us understand what’s happening in our hearts. But they were never meant to carry us on their own.

Rather than leaning solely on our own understanding, Merri Ellen encourages us to invite God into our pain and allow Him to minister to our hearts as He walks with us through the journey.

If this season feels heavy, you’re not alone. There is space to bring your grief, your questions, and your weariness to God, and to trust Him with each step forward.

The greatest gift you can give your family this Christmas is faith lived out at home.

More than the presents, the traditions, or the perfectly planned moments, what shapes our children most is what they see lived out day after day. When faith is practiced in everyday moments through grace, forgiveness, generosity, and love, it becomes real and lasting.

Christmas is a beautiful opportunity to slow down, refocus on Christ, and intentionally model what it looks like to put God at the center of family life. These moments, both simple and sacred, are the ones your children will carry with them long after the season ends.

DFR Counsellor Rachelle Siemens (MA, RCC) shares that trust is rebuilt through consistency in the small things. Doing what you say you will do, when you say you will do it. Choosing reliability over overpromising. Following through even when it feels inconvenient.

Trust grows when words and actions begin to match again. One moment at a time, one commitment at a time.

Looking to bring new meaning, joy, and connection to your Christmas season?

Here are five simple, meaningful traditions to help your family refocus and reconnect this year:

1. Open your home
Invite friends or family in and go deeper together. Share memories, gratitude, and finish with a moment of prayer or reflection.

2. Open your door
Get outside as a family. Go skating, tobogganing, carolling, hiking, or create a Christmas scavenger hunt. Make memories in God’s creation.

3. Open your table
Welcome someone who might otherwise spend Christmas alone. A single parent, a student, a neighbour. Share your meal and God’s love.

4. Open your wallet
Give generously as a family. Sponsor a child, donate to a local charity, or bless another family in need. Let giving shape your season.

5. Open your heart
Slow down and reflect on the meaning of Christmas. Read Luke 2 together, pray as a family, or celebrate Jesus’ birth in a simple, heartfelt way.

Anxiety and depression grow in silence.
Healing begins when we speak.

In this week’s reel, counsellor Anna Brotzel, MA, RCC explains why sharing your struggle with someone is one of the most powerful steps you can take on the road to recovery.

You deserve support. You deserve to feel better.
And opening up can be the beginning.

Rules without relationship equals rebellion.

DFR Counsellor Cam Broad, reminds parents that building connection comes before correction. When kids know they’re seen, known, and loved, they’re far more likely to listen and trust your guidance.

A strong relationship is the foundation for healthy boundaries, not the other way around.

When kids are struggling, what they need most isn’t perfection, it’s presence.

DFR Counsellor Leanne Novakowski reminds parents that “kids spell love T-I-M-E.”
Take them out for ice cream, play a game, go for a walk, let them choose the activity. What matters most is showing up.

And remember: kids need love the most when they deserve it the least.

Battles are won behind this door.

At the DFR Care Centre, this room - the War Room - is where prayer, planning, and purpose come together. It’s where families find guidance, marriages are strengthened, and hearts begin to heal.

Every conversation, every prayer, every decision made here is part of the greater battle for healthy relationships and strong faith.
