Celebrating Chris Bowers!
After six years being part of our community, Chris is on his way to be with his daughter and grand children in Alberta. He officially ended on Friday October 3 though he will be staying around for another week or so.
Chris came to JH about six years ago in desperate need of help which he easily puts into more colourful words. An amazing thing happened to him and us. His life turned around when he embraced and trusted God, friends , and community. Within time, we realized he knew how to throw a hammer and build well - a red certified carpenter. He started volunteering by building things we needed at the Creek which led him to joining our staff team. What did he build? Gazebos, roofs over snowy walkways, woodsheds, signage, shelving, flooring, pig pen, greenhouse, chicken coup and many, many other things including ongoing maintenance of all our properties.
His generous presence has been massive. The Creek has steadily been improved by his skills in building beautifully.
But better yet, he was the guy most anyone could hang out with where he would simply listen and give an encouraging word.
He came when his life was falling apart and now he leaves after having been rebuilt and having built us stronger. That is the best part of being in community. Everyone is blessed by the give and take of love and care that also overflows to many beyond.
We will miss you Chris. You have been a big part of us. May you continue to build strength and beauty wherever you go!
