Hey folks! As I wait to become fully registered as a massage therapist, I am excited to begin doing Body Work (RMT before registration) at Intuitive Rehab in Garrison starting Friday Oct 4th up until late November/early December!

If you know anyone who does not have benefits, or has ran out of massage benefits, you can get a discounted rate for massage $65 + tax, before I become fully registered and cost doubles! I will be doing 6 one hour treatments each Friday and I currently have 5 available for my first day!

I would appreciate if anyone could help spread the word to any local Chilliwack/Abbotsford folks you may know that could benefit from a massage from an eager new grad passionate about helping all types of folks and injuries! I look forward to begin this new career in my hometown!

👣Balance and Foot Function👣 🔹Homo Sapiens (me and you, every day humans) are a bipedal species. We remain upright on two legs due to co-contraction of muscles on the either sides of the joints of our meat wagon. Our muscles and connective tissues send constant information to the brain (Afferent Feedback) to help it determine where our bodies are in space. The soles of our feet are actually the most densely packed area of Nociceptors (sensory receptors cells for touch), having some of the highest potential for Afference. .
🔹Often times we send some very poor information to the brain simply because we lack the basic function of the joints themselves. Therefore, we are not activating as many mechanoreceptors and Nociceptors and thus sending poor info and risking poor joint function. We can expect our meat wagon to get us from point A to point B because we are great compensators, but we cannot expect to have longevity when we possess limited ability to produce and dissipate force efficiently. .
🔹We can simply improve balance and foot function by starting at the root, literally! Assess your feet, learn how to build an arch, torque, and active foot. Use some of the tools I provide (Reactive Neuromuscular Training = RNT) here to really help you understand how much your feet play a roll on body awareness as a whole. Don't believe me? Take a lacrosse Ball and roll on the bottoms of your feet. That crazy sensation you feel when you do this the first time is basically your nociceptors of the foot living in a pitch black room, and you just flicked the light on! 💡

🌳Hip CARs🌳

🔸When clients begin performing Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) they are notoriously performed much too quickly. I usually like to coach CARs by stating that every single phase of the movement should be expressed at 1mph and one rep should take at least 30 seconds. Imagine your underwater, as if the air is 50% heavier.

🔸A nice way to block speed and control compensations with CARs is by using environmental and task constraints. Adding a balance component and some perceived threat of falling (potentially getting soaked) and watch how much slower and smoother your movements through each transition occurs. If you compensate through your spine your more than likely to get soaked😜.

💪 Core Training 💪

🔸Most people get prescribed core exercises for back pain. When exercises like bird-dogs, dead bugs, planks, curl-ups, etc. are given to folks who do not have fundamental joint motion of the spine, back pain gets exacerbated.

🔸If your doctor, trainer, physio, etc. told you to perform core exercise without seeing how your spine moves please start with this first and assess your spine's function. Each segment of our spine (yes all 24 articulations) is supposed to contribute to global movement of the spine. This allows for load be evenly distributed throughout the entire spine and resist compressive forces. When we begin core exercises without awareness of spinal segmentation we are potentially putting further compression on an already disfunctional spine.

🔸Learn how to move your spine through:
1️⃣ Global Spine Flexion/Extension w/positional isometrics.
2️⃣ Segmental Spinal Flexion/Extension AKA Spine CARs
3️⃣Transfer into safely loaded intro core exercises like the Crook Lying March
🔸Give it a try Y'all! Achieve better spinal control before training resisting spinal movement! Oh and by the way, stop chasing Thoracic Rotation mobility and work on Flexion/Extension first. The base rate function of the spine is to flex and extend!

🔸It's been a while social media fam! With the coronavirus I am currently off and have been at home with the wife and kids quarentined and social distancing!

🔸Anyways, I felt I should get back into posting some content and was given a few requests so here is the first! How to use principles to improve Ankle Mobility for Squats. Overhead and Front squats place a higher demand on our ankle mobility along with many other articulations (T-Spine, Hips, Knees, etc). Here is a set-up for increasing awareness of the tibialis anterior muscles to help ensure you are actively pulling yourself into Ankle Dorsiflexion! Did you know there are three different rotary elements to the action of Ankle DF?! The foot and ankle are some extremely crammed and jammed joints with plenty of articulations.

🔸I'll have more posts to come shortly! Thanks for sticking around!
