This week is Myopia Awareness Week.

It is expected that, by the year 2050, HALF of the world’s population will be nearsighted.

Nearsightedness is more than simply a vision issue. Increased nearsightedness has been shown to increase the risk of multiple ocular conditions such as retinal detachments, glaucoma, and cataracts.

This is the reason why our doctors and staff are so passionate about myopia management. We now have treatments available to us that can help reduce the progression of myopia in our young patients.

The clear zone in the centre CORRECTs vision so the child can see clearly in all activities.

Please meet Dr. Harpreet Takhar!

Dr. Harpreet graduated from the New England College of Optometry in Boston in 2020. After working in the states, she returned to Abbotsford and joined the HEC team just over a year ago.

Fun fact, Dr. Harpreet shadowed with Dr. Sian as a student before starting optometry school. So really she been part of the family for years now!

Outside of work Dr. Harpreet enjoys traveling, spin class and art.

There are multiple ways that digital device use can impact kids eyes, including:
👉🏼 Increased risk of myopia/nearsightedness
👉🏼 Digital eye strain
👉🏼 Dry eyes

Thankfully, there are lots of ways we can help.

Here are a few tips to reduce these effects and keep their little peepers healthy:
