Nursing Throwback! 👩⚕️📸
It’s National Nursing Week, and we’re celebrating the remarkable nurses who now call Glenwood Seniors Community home. These individuals spent their lives caring for others—and today, we honour their legacy with a few fascinating nursing throwback facts:
🧼 In 1847, a nurse introduced handwashing into hospital care—this simple act helped drop death rates from 42% to just 2%.
🎓 Canada’s first nursing school opened in 1874 in St. Catharines, Ontario, shaping generations of dedicated caregivers.
👒 Until the 1970s, nurses wore white dresses, starched caps, and capes—symbols of pride, professionalism, and discipline.
