Meet our Doctors!

Dr. Nicole Deschamps grew up in small-town Saskatchewan. She obtained a Bachelor of Vision Science prior to attending the Optometry program at Pacific University in Oregon. Following graduation in 2011, Dr. Deschamps settled in Alberta. Clinical training included diverse primary care externships in Alberta and North Dakota, as well as ocular disease management at the Hot Springs Veterans Hospital in South Dakota.

In 2017 Dr. Deschamps joined the Airdrie and Innisfail Eyecare group. Dr. Deschamps welcomes the opportunity to travel throughout North America to attend continuing education conferences, which keeps her well-informed about advances in eyecare. Dr. Deschamps enjoys providing optometric care to patients of all ages, and looks forward to developing long term doctor-patient relationships at the Airdrie Eyecare and Innisfail Eyecare Centres.

When not working, Dr. Deschamps can be found spending time with her husband on their grain and cattle farm. She also dedicates a great deal of time and skill to showing and riding reining horses.

Meet our Doctors!

Dr. Melissa Thome grew up in Devon, Alberta. She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University College of Optometry in 2009 and received the Dean’s Award upon graduation for academic excellence and commitment to fulfill the university mission. It is here that she met her husband, Dr. Bryan Thome. Following graduation, they moved to Penticton B.C and practiced there together for 5 years.

In 2014 they had the opportunity to join the Airdrie and Innisfail Eyecare teams. They are very happy to be part of a large multi clinic practice that provides full scope optometric care and to be back home near family and friends.

Dr. Thome has a special interest in Primary Care Optometry with focus on pediatric, trauma, and ocular disease. She is also one of the original coordinators of 100 Women Who Care Airdrie, an organization dedicated to raising funds for local charities and nonprofits.

Outside of work, Dr. Thome enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.

The need for comprehensive eye examinations by an Optometrist is critical to your overall health. Vision and ocular health conditions are not always accompanied by recognizable symptoms, and there is often an increased risk to the patient if timely treatment is not initiated.
••
Systemic disease such as diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, autoimmune, and many others, can be detected during your eye examination.
••
Frequency of examinations is dependent on your particular eye care needs. The recommended minimum frequencies of eye exams for most “low risk” people can be found on our website.
