Meet our Doctors.

Dr. Julie Holms grew up in a small town in Ontario and graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Sciences. She went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, graduating with Honours in 2023. She was involved in many extracurricular activities while at school including acting as the Director for Skit Night, an annual gathering of students and faculty to watch as students showcase their theatrical skills.

Dr. Holms completed her clinical externships in rural Saskatchewan and suburban Alberta, where she gained experience in providing comprehensive eyecare to patients of all ages and developed an interest in pediatrics including myopia control. She loves educating and working with patients to ensure they feel in control of their own ocular health. While completing her externships, she developed a love and appreciation for Western Canada. She’s very excited to begin her career in Airdrie and is looking forward to helping the community thrive.

In her free time, you can find Dr. Holms at the gym doing a workout class, on the hiking trails, or at home with a good book. She is passionate about traveling around the world as well as experiencing the joys of her home country

Meet our Doctors.

Dr Amy Forrest, originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo in 2003. Following graduation, Dr Forrest moved to Taber, Alberta where she practiced for nine years before moving to Airdrie in 2012.

Dr Forrest became a partner at the Airdrie and Innisfail Eyecare Centres in 2014 and enjoys the challenge of practicing and managing a large, multi-clinic practice. Dr Forrest has a special interest in glaucoma, ocular trauma and pathology.

Since 2009, Dr Forrest has been a council and/or committee member with the Alberta Association of Optometrists. She also enjoys consulting with eyecare industry partners.

Away from the clinic, Dr Forrest is busy with her husband and their two boys. The family loves to travel and is often found on the ski hill in the winter and boating during the summer.

Meet our Doctors.

Dr Jared Long joined the Airdrie and Innisfail Eyecare Centres in 2003 and has been a managing partner since 2008. He enjoys the challenge of switching between patient care and management of the teams in the clinics.

Dr Long is a 2003 graduate of the Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Waterloo. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba. While in optometry school, Dr Long completed clinical externships in primary care and ocular disease with optometrists and ophthalmologists in Calgary and Vancouver with a focus on Glaucoma treatment.

Dr Long delights in providing continuing care to both new and existing patients and has developed a special interest in the areas of ocular trauma and pathology with an emphasis on glaucoma management. With many advancements in digital imaging of the eye, such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Auto-Fluorescence (AF), he is able to point out and discuss areas of concern, early before vision loss occurs.

Away from the clinic, Dr Long is committed to providing eyecare services to those in need and has participated in projects in rural communities in Jamaica, Malawi and Mexico. He is a member of Canadian Vision Care and the Alberta Association of Optometrists and a director with Canadian Vision Care.

Dr Long grew up on a grain farm in northwest Manitoba and is typically found skiing, hiking, biking and camping in the nearby Rocky Mountains with his family.
