What happens when therapy leaves the couch and heads outdoors?

Kristy McConnell, R. Psych., founder of OBP, recently joined to talk about walk and talk therapy, EMDR, trauma healing, anxiety, nervous system regulation, and the story behind building a nature-based counselling practice in Airdrie.

In this conversation, we explore:
β€’ How movement and nature support mental health
β€’ Why walk and talk therapy can feel less intimidating
β€’ How EMDR helps process trauma and stuck experiences
β€’ Signs it may be time to reach out for support

At OBP, we offer counselling for children, teens, adults, couples, and athletes across Airdrie, Calgary, and Cochrane, including EMDR therapy, trauma therapy, couples counselling, sports psychology, anxiety support, and outdoor therapy sessions.

Conflict is a normal part of relationships, but how we communicate during difficult moments can shape trust, emotional safety, and long term connection.

At Off the Beaten Path Psychology and Wellness, we support individuals and couples in building healthier communication patterns, emotional awareness, and stronger relationships through counselling and therapy.

Learning to approach conflict with patience, empathy, and openness can help relationships feel more connected and secure.

Meet Tashia, joining OBP in July 2026 as a Masters Intern at Nauton House in Airdrie. While completing her graduate training at the University of Calgary, Tashia brings more than 15 years of experience supporting children, teens, and families within local schools.

Her approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in real life. Tashia believes therapy should feel human, supportive, and safe, not like a performance. Whether you are navigating parenting, adolescence, school stress, or simply trying to figure things out, you do not have to do it alone.

Starting therapy can feel nerve racking, but you do not have to arrive polished or certain. You just have to show up. πŸ’›

For this summer, Tashia is offering reduced rates for psychoeducational assessments ($2000 flat rate) and for counselling sessions ($50 per session). Visit her profile page on our website for more information and to submit your interest.

Money struggles are not always about budgeting or willpower. Sometimes they are connected to trauma, nervous system responses, gender conditioning, and deeply rooted beliefs about worth.

At Off the Beaten Path Psychology and Wellness, we often work with women navigating divorce, career changes, entrepreneurship, motherhood, grief, identity shifts, and financial stress. One pattern that comes up often is financial fawning: shrinking your needs, undercharging, overgiving, or feeling guilty for asking for fairness.

Healing your relationship with money starts with understanding the story beneath it.
