Fun Dental Facts:

It was on this day, Jan 9th 1789 that American dentist, John Greenwood began crafting complete dentures for George Washington, the first US president. These dentures, contrary to legend, were not made of wood but from materials like hippopotamus ivory, gold wire, brass, and human teeth.

Washington began wearing partial dentures in 1781, and by the time he became president in 1789, he had only one natural tooth remaining.

His set of complete dentures are now displayed at his historic estate in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
