Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services

Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services Compassionate, flexible funeral and cremation services in BC and SK. Canadian owned and operated.

Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services began in Western Canada in 1992 as Personal Alternative Funeral Services, with the goal of providing consumers with a comfortable, affordable and common-sense alternative to the escalating costs found in many funeral homes. Clearly our approach was welcomed as we have become the largest independently owned funeral home in Western Canada. From the one location in Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, the company has grown to serve over 1,200 families every year. From the inception, our business model of going to the family in their own home to make final arrangements has become very successful. Other funeral providers discovered our system, resulting in the establishment of Partner Locations in various cities including, Vernon, Armstrong, and Trail in British Columbia, in Calgary and Red Deer in Alberta. And we are pleased to welcome the latest Partner Location in Regina, Saskatchewan. Our mission is to deliver superior value, both financially and emotionally. And while our name has changed, the same strong ownership and management structure remains in place.

C.S. Lewis, beloved author and thinker, often reflected on the journey of life as one of continual growth and discovery. He encouraged us to embrace change, pursue our dreams, and never stop learning. His words remind us that life is not just about the years we live, but the courage and curiosity we bring to each moment.

The scattering — or gentle release — of cremated remains is a meaningful way to honour a life in a place that held special significance. Whether by the water, in the mountains, or on private property, families in British Columbia have several options, each with simple guidelines to follow. It can be quiet and intimate or include words, music, and shared memories. There is no “right” way — only what feels most meaningful. If you have questions about the scattering of cremated remains, we’re here to offer clarity, care, and guidance every step of the way. 🤍
