KimT Massage offers in home massage therapy. This means, rather than you coming to me in a clinic, I come to you in your home. I have my own Massage table and a Massage chair (if you feel like your home is too small to accomodate a full table), along with all the linens needed.

I know many may be hesitant about this change, but something to think about when booking your session:
1- There's less time that you have to book off from work as you can do this right before work, right after work, or during your lunch break, especially if you work from home!
2- if you use public transit, you save a LOT of time (if you're busing) or a LOT of money (if you're using UBER or a Taxi).
3- If you drive, you still save time and you no longer have to worry about being relaxed from the massage where you feel a bit groggy and then have to drive.
4- if your day is done, you can easily change into your PJs or a robe after the massage and go straight into relaxing mode.

These are only a few of the many benefits of having a massage in your home. If you have any questions about it, please let me know so I can ease your mind.

You can book your massage by sending me an email at forinfo@kimtmassage.com or call me at 613-663-2843 extension 1.

A strong core can help protect the back, especially the lower back. This is the case even with people who already have back injuries, though if you have a back injury strengthening your core has to be done slowly.

Some believe that the core is made solely of their abdominal muscles but that isn't the case. The core is made up of the Diaphragm, Transverse Abdominus (one of your abdominal muscles), Pelvic Floor, and Multifids (small back muscles between the vertebrae).
These muscles can become weak for a few different reasons, from postural imbalances, short shallow breathing, and pregnancy to name a few.

A good exercise to start engaging your core is to balance sitting on an exercise ball. When you gain control of your balance while sitting on it, you can try adding some movement, which would be to roll from side to side and back and forth. These movements are to be kept small, you aren't trying to do a full circle around the ball, only a few degrees.

Hyperlordosis is where there is an over exaggerated lordotic (low back) curve. When the lordotic curve is exaggerated, it causes the pelvis to tilt forward, giving the appearance of pushing the buttocks backward.

This can happen when pregnancy, obesity, weak abdominal muscles, poor posture, IT band contracture, or Pes Planus are present.
The treatment all depends on the reason why the hyperlordosis is present to begin with. The good news is that the condition responds well to treatment when home exercises are done regularly. When it comes to pregnancy, some of the treatments and exercises can only be done after the baby is born.

Hyperkyphosis is an over exaggerated upper back curve. Because of this excessive curve in the back it also causes the shoulders to curl forward and the head hang forward as well. It is also known as a hunchback. It is commonly seen in elderly who use a walker.

This condition can be functional (only affecting the muscles and can be reversed) or structural (the vertebrae begin to fuse or wedge together and can't be reversed with the use of manual therapy).

Hyperkyphosis is more prominent in people with long term careers that cause them to be in this position on a daily basis, such as dentists, hairstylists and even those who work at a computer desk that isn't positioned for proper ergonomics.

The best thing to do is make sure that when you notice this incorrect posture happening, to start a stretching regime, that you can enforce every few hours, even if your stretching only lasts for a couple of minutes and use either massage, physiotherapy or chiropractic services to help maintain better posture.

As for anyone that needs to use a walker, make sure that they see a physiotherapist that is licensed in assessing the proper height you need the walker to be to minimize this curvature as well.

Scoliosis is a condition that causes the spine to curve to the side. The curve can make it look like an S or a C. Depending on how exaggurated the curvature is, some may live with the condition without ever knowing it, as it won't be painful. Whereas others it'll be very noticable and extremely painful, even potentially making it difficult to breath due to the shift in the ribcage.
There are two main forms of scoliosis: Structural and Functional.
Structural scoliosis is present at birth, and generally makes the spine look line an S. Depending on the severity of the condition, a metal rod will be surgically implanted beside the spine to try to help correct that curve.
Functional Scoliosis, develops over years of muscular imbalances that causes the spine to curve into a C shape. This condition can be corrected with physical and manual therapy. Stretching and strengthening exercises are needed to correct the imbalances and the manual therapy helps to treat trigger points, stimulate the weakened muscles and relax the tightened muscles.
