A recent birth cohort study suggested that vaccinated children had higher rates of chronic issues like asthma, eczema, autoimmune conditions, and neurodevelopmental disorders compared to unvaccinated kids.

But here’s the thing — this isn’t a perfect study. It’s observational, not randomized. That means it can show associations, not causation. Families who don’t vaccinate often make very different lifestyle choices overall.

One big factor? Diet.
Parents who choose not to vaccinate are often the same parents who prioritize whole foods, avoid processed products, and feed their kids nutrient-dense meals. That alone dramatically impacts long-term health outcomes.

My take: It’s important for parents to acknowledge that this study was done and these are the patterns it shows — but also to understand the bigger picture. Children’s health is influenced by so much more than vaccination status: diet, sleep, movement, time outdoors, screen time, and overall lifestyle.

At the end of the day, no matter where you stand on vaccines, nutrition and wellness practices are the true foundation of a resilient immune system and lifelong health.

Mornings feel chaotic?

Here’s one simple shift that changes everything 👇

➡️ Have a ready-to-go morning snack for your kids.

When toddlers and kids wake up already “hangry,” it can set the tone for a whole morning of whining, meltdowns, and mom burnout before 9 a.m.

But when they have something nourishing within minutes of waking up…
✅ They regulate faster
✅ You get a moment to sip your coffee
✅ Everyone starts the day on a calmer note

Here’s one of my go-to make-ahead favorites:

🧁 Gluten-Free Protein-Packed Mini Muffins (sugar-free!)

Ingredients:

1 cup cottage cheese

2 eggs

1 banana

1/3 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup butter, melted (or coconut oil)

1 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 cups oat flour (blended GF oats)

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

Optional: mini chocolate chips or blueberries

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350°F and grease or line a mini muffin tin

Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth

Pour into muffin cups (about ¾ full)

Bake for 18-22 minutes or until set

Cool & store in the fridge for up to 4 days—or freeze for later

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, skin health is closely linked to the Lung and Spleen meridians, as well as overall body balance. Here are a few simple TCM-inspired tips to support a clear, radiant complexion:

Hydrate & Cool from Within
– Enjoy cooling fruits and vegetables like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens to help soothe inflammation.
– Herbal teas like chrysanthemum or mint can ease internal heat that shows up on your skin as redness or acne.

Nourish Your Qi
– Incorporate qi-boosting foods such as cooked grains (like quinoa or brown rice), gently steamed vegetables, and warming broths.
– A strong, healthy digestive system (Spleen) supports more efficient nutrient absorption and can result in healthier skin.

Get Adequate Rest & Practice Self-Care
– Support lung health with mindful breathing exercises or brisk morning walks. Proper oxygenation helps your skin look vibrant.
– Guard against stress through activities that promote relaxation, such as qi gong or a simple bedtime routine—stress hormones can disrupt skin balance.

Address Common Skin Concerns with TCM Herbs & Foods
– Acne: Incorporate bitter, cooling foods (romaine, dandelion greens) to clear heat, plus gentle digestive support like ginger to aid in detoxification.
– Eczema or Dryness: Sip on nourishing soups with ingredients like goji berries, jujubes, or bone broth to boost Yin and replenish moisture.
– Redness & Inflammation: Try chrysanthemum tea or cucumber slices to cool inflamed areas; limit spicy foods and alcohol, which can worsen heat.
