📢 Introducing Kat! 🎉

Kat is one of the new additions to our team of kinesiologists! ☺️

Kat holds a Bachelor’s in Human Kinetics and a Master’s in Human Health & Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph, where she specialized in cardiovascular exercise physiology. She’s worked with varsity athletes as a strength & conditioning coach and gained hands-on clinical experience working alongside physiotherapists.

Kat grew up dancing and swimming, and now channels her love of staying active into running, golfing, frisbee, and strength training at her local gym.

She loves being part of the Physiomed team because it allows her to help patients build confidence, gain strength, and reach their goals, while challenging them and having fun!

Today is all about promoting a PROACTIVE approach to improve your overall health. At Physiomed Alliston, we believe big changes come from small habits that lead to a healthy active life long term! One of our most important goals is to educate patients and encourage lifestyle changes that not only increase longevity but improve their overall quality of life.

Research consistently shows that patients who stick to their prescribed treatment plans and home exercise routines experience faster recovery, less pain, and better long-term outcomes. Building a habit and staying on track – even when life gets busy – directly impacts your progress!

Here are a few tips to stay consistent this summer:
✅ Schedule it like an appointment — Add it to your calendar or set a phone reminder.
✅ Break it up — No time for a full session? Split it into shorter chunks throughout the day.
✅ Pack smart — Bring resistance bands and/or a printed version of your program when you travel.
✅ Pair it with a daily habit — Try doing your exercises right after brushing your teeth or while watching your favorite show.
✅ Keep your "why" in mind— Whether it’s avoiding injury, mobility, or getting back to the activities you love, remind yourself what you're working toward.

🌞 Beat the heat with hydration! 💧

When temperatures rise, your body works harder to cool down—meaning hydration isn't optional, it's essential. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, dizziness, and even heatstroke. 🥵

Don't wait for heat waves to worry about your water intake! Staying hydrated every day helps to support:

💪 Muscle Recovery – Water helps deliver nutrients to muscles and remove waste, speeding up recovery and reducing soreness.
🦴 Joint Health – Your joints rely on fluid to stay lubricated. Less water = more friction = higher injury risk and/or pain.

Not sure where to start? Remember general recommendations of 8-12 cups OR, if you are physically active, use the Galpin Equation to correct your baseline:

Bodyweight (lbs) ÷ 30 = ounces/15-20 min
👉 Example: A 180 lb person needs an additional 6oz for every 15-20 min of exercise

Pro Tips for navigating hydration:
✅ Heat and high exercise intensity both require increased water consumption
✅ Include electrolytes if you're sweating a lot
✅ Sip throughout the day—don’t wait until you're thirsty

Hydration isn’t just about survival—it’s about performance, recovery, and overall health.
