A caring nurse sometimes goes above and beyond to foster healing with dignity for a patient. They also try to develop a relationship with the patient’s family to help support them during the patient’s path to wellness. This kind of care can mean so much to everyone involved.

Today, we are taking the time to let one of our RN-2 Nurses in Medical and Surgical know that his dedication to his patients has not gone unnoticed and he is truly appreciated.

Today is International Self Care Day 2025.

This day is dedicated to promoting the importance of self-care and encouraging individuals to prioritize their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and to help prevent lifestyle diseases.

For people aged 18 to 50, self-care is especially crucial. This stage of life is often filled with work pressure, academic responsibilities, family commitments, and digital overload. Without mindful self-care, chronic stress can take a toll, increasing the risk of lifestyle diseases like hypertension, anxiety, diabetes, and burnout.

Key Tips:
• Exercise regularly: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week, like walking, yoga, cycling, or gym workouts.
• Sleep well: Prioritize 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night to allow your body to recover and recharge.
• Eat nourishing foods: eat whole foods, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats.
• Hydrate: Drink 8–10 glasses of water daily to support digestion, skin health, and energy.
• Take breaks: Especially if you work at a desk or study for long hours. Stretch every hour and rest your eyes.
• Annual health checkups: Regular screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar levels, and more.
• Dental and eye exams: Do not skip dental and eye exams. They’re essential for your general health.
• Track symptoms: Notice changes in your sleep, energy, or mood as early detection can prevent complications.

Monday, July 7 is Canada’s ninth National Injury Prevention Day.

Injury prevention is critical to saving lives: Did you know that injury is the No. 1 cause of death of Canadians ages 1 to 44? Or that injury costs the Canadian economy $29.4 billion a year?

Quick facts
Every day, 48 Canadians die and 634 are hospitalized because of injuries.
Preventable injury kills more Canadian children than any disease, and more youth than all other causes combined.
75 per cent of injury-related deaths are from unintentional causes, such as falls, car crashes and poisonings.
Falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, hospitalizations, emergency department visits and disabilities in Canada.

As part of National Injury Prevention Day, Parachute invites hospitals across Canada to raise awareness about the importance of injury prevention to the health-care system.

We have a student at CRHCC that is learning the skills and knowledge to provide care and support to individuals in need. she may be following a pathway to a rewarding career in healthcare, with opportunities and a chance to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Compassion and empathy are essential qualities of a nurse. Nursing is a caregiving career and it is vital to for nurses to ensure that their patients feel cared for. By actively listening to their patients, nurses establish a rapport that goes beyond the clinical setting. Patients are more likely to open up about their health issues when they feel heard and supported. Today, we are taking the time to let one of our RN-2 Nurses in Medical and Surgical know that her dedication to her patients has not gone unnoticed and she is truly appreciated.
