This image shows a positive aspiration: meaning blood was drawn back into the syringe before injecting.

Why does this matter?

Aspiration is one of the safety techniques used to help identify if the needle may be within a blood vessel before product is placed. While it’s not foolproof, it can provide an added layer of awareness in certain areas.

In this case, aspirating allowed me to recognize a potential intravascular placement and reposition, potentially avoiding a higher-risk complication!

Aspiration alone isn’t what keeps you safe:

What truly matters is:
• Deep understanding of facial anatomy
• Knowing high-risk zones and vascular pathways
• Proper injection technique and depth
• The ability to recognize and manage complications

Because even with aspiration, safety ultimately comes down to the knowledge and skill of your injector.
