🌿what you’ll find with me🌿

Rather than just listing modalities (types of psychotherapy) that I offer, I prefer to give snapshots of how I approach our time together:

🌱 intuitive - my questions and suggestions come from a place of curiosity and felt sense, instead of following a protocol or structured plan.

🌱 person-centred - sessions are not about me, the hour is yours and the healing journey is yours, and you are the expert on your own life - you are in charge of the process, I am here to guide you.

🌱 inclusive - suspending judgment, meeting clients where they’re at, and helping people embrace who they really are is essential to my work.

🌱 strengths-based - often in the sh*tshow of our lives, we lose sight of the amazing things about ourselves and focus on how we’re lacking - I’m here to reconnect you with those (and yes, I’m okay with swearing in session).

🌱 collaborative - therapy is not me telling you what to do or one-size-fits-all - instead we’re figuring it out together to honour how your brain works.

🌱 gently challenging - I use this term to show the importance of client’s beliefs, thoughts, and responses being challenged so we can grow - but in a supportive and compassionate way.

🌿life’s challenges🌿

Psychotherapy is not just for crisis or waiting for things to be “bad enough”. When life is life-ing, it helps to talk to process, get more strategies, and re-connect with our strengths 💚

This list is not complete but captures what I am passionate supporting people with 🤝

🎙️ fearless podcast 🎙️

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to share this, but better late than never! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Last May I was invited to speak with Jules at .ca about my journey to becoming a social worker and psychotherapist 💚 link in bio to listen to the full episode 🔗

It was so much fun and made me realize how much I enjoy capturing these candid conversations through podcasts. If you are looking for a guest speaker for your podcast, please reach out! 🗣️

Sometimes people can feel nervous to start their careers since they don’t know where it will end up. Sometimes we may feel like we need to know exactly how the journey will look before we head towards a new destination.

However, even though we can never know what may happen before it happens, what we can do is take the action that is within our power. Therefore, even though you may have doubts, focus your efforts on taking the next best steps before you, and soon enough you may find ourself at your destination!

In this podcast episode, Kelly and I discuss how she had no intention of working in psychotherapy initially after grad school, but found her way there organically - simply by listening to herself and to the feedback that she received from fellow colleagues and leaders. She discovered more of what she loved along the way, and brought more of it into her now flourishing career!

In this episode:
- Kelly’s entrance to social work
- From social work into private practice
- Working in NIHB
- Kelly’s advice for listeners

Numbers don’t reflect our worth - we deserve happiness and peace regardless of our accomplishments or “failures” 💚 But I do like breaking down the year’s numbers because 1, I embrace my nerdiness 🤓, and 2, it helps me realize what I want to focus on this year.

I’m proud of the relationships I build with clients and witnessing their growth, trying new things, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone 🌿

I’m pumped to be collaborating with others even more and finding ways to connect with community that are outside of the box. If this is something that interests you too, please reach out! 🤝

✨ reflecting + pivoting 💫

Hot take: I don’t like New Year’s resolutions. They make us think we need to overhaul ourselves and create “goals” that may not be realistic or attainable, then we “fail” and feel ashamed, leaving us in a vicious cycle 🌪️

Instead, I like using new years as an opportunity to look back on our year with gratitude + reflect on ourselves with curiosity and compassion, asking what we’d like to take with us + and what want to leave behind ✌️

I created some fill in the blanks to help with thinking on your ins (more) and outs (less) for 2025. Try writing the first thing that pops in to your head, without filtering or judgment ✍️

I also shared my own at the end 💚 take good care of yourself as we turn to a new chapter.

🌿 Discovering Your Strengths for Teens🌿

Honoured to be running a workshop for youth at the Essa Public Library - Angus branch this Friday to help discover how amazing we all are 💚

In a world that tells us to be anything but ourselves, it’s important to learn to appreciate our unique qualities.

This Friday, November 8th from 2:30-3:30pm, join the workshop “Discovering Your Strengths: Using What You’ve Got” for teens grades 9 to 12, led by registered social worker and psychotherapist Kelly Hoskin (BSW, RSW). Through a craft of decorating and personalizing a stone, we’ll explore our inner strengths to improve self-compassion and empower ourselves.

Tanya from Roots + Raven will lead a lovely craft while sharing plant knowledge and how to stay connected to nature during these long cold months. Together we’ll foster a space of warmth, connection, and intention.

I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to gathering data and stats, so thought it would be interesting to see a Year-in-Review for my practice! 📈

Reminder that there’s no need to compare - everyone’s practice and capacity is different yet equally as valuable 💚

I’m very grateful for all the opportunities this last year, and looking forward for what’s to come!
