๐ Winter Chicken Care Tips for Better Winter Egg Production! ๐ฅ
Winter can slow down egg production โ but with the right care, your hens can stay healthy, happy, and laying. Here are my top 6 winter care tips from the reel:
1๏ธโฃ Secure the Coop From Drafts
Seal cracks and gaps to reduce cold air entering and help the coop hold heat.
2๏ธโฃ Proper Ventilation
Ventilation prevents humidity and ammonia buildup. Add a vent or adjustable window for fresh air without drafts.
3๏ธโฃ Litter: Shavings + Straw
Start with a clean, dry coop. Use shavings for absorption and long-stem straw for insulation. Rake and top up regularly to keep birds dry.
4๏ธโฃ Heating
Natural heat from good coop design is best, but certified heat lampsโused safelyโare a great option. (We have lamps, mats & bulbs in stock!)
5๏ธโฃ Water
Always offer clean, warm water. Cider vinegar helps clean waterers. Heated waterers help prevent freezing. (Also in stock!)
6๏ธโฃ Enrichment
Keep boredom and pecking down by adding straw, Happy Peck Blocks, Happy Blocks, or Mealworms & Black Soldier Fly (all available in store!)
โจ Bonus: Daylight Matters!
Chickens need about 14โ16 hours of light per day to maintain egg production. Using a safe, low-wattage supplemental light on a timer can help keep them laying through the darker months.
With the right setup, your flock can stay comfortable AND keep laying all winter long! โ๏ธ๐
