Dr. Mohan Ram was one of my fabulous professors in ND school 💜 and he is so right about this!

This is why NDs ALWAYS ask about digestive health/bowel movements even when you think they may not be related to the symptoms you're experiencing. It is all connected. 👏

For too long, healthcare has framed naturopathic medicine and pharmacy as opposing forces.

In reality, the future of patient-centred care depends on collaboration, not silos.

Dr Adam Livingston and Dr Emma Pollon-MacLeod have had the privilege of collaborating with NDNR, and together we’re looking into how naturopathic doctors and pharmacists can work side by side to better support patients living with chronic illness.

Today, most prescriptions are written for long-term conditions, yet our system is still largely built for acute care. The result? Prescribing cascades, polypharmacy, and patients who feel confused, unheard, or disconnected from their treatment plans.

Naturopathic doctors bring time, education, and a root-cause lens. Pharmacists bring unparalleled access, medication expertise, and a bird’s-eye view of prescribing trends. When these strengths are combined, we see better compliance, safer deprescribing pathways, and truly personalized medicine, especially through compounding and customized dosing.

This collaborative model isn’t about replacing one profession with another. It’s about aligning expertise so patients understand the why behind their care, reduce unnecessary medications, and experience better long-term outcomes.

As healthcare continues to evolve, integrated models like this won’t be optional, they’ll be essential.

Acupuncture is one of my absolute favorite therapies for endometriosis and painful periods. ❤️ For endo, I always recommend it as a complementary therapy alongside nutritional medicine and care from a gynecologist (medications and/or surgery).

I wrote a blog post about it here!👇

I LOVE our public library ❤️📖 We are so lucky to have this amazing free resource right in town! I read about 50 books every year - and that's in large part thanks to our incredible library 🫶 PS- they also have SAD lamps on site to help with seasonal affective disorder this time of year ❄️✨️

Try visiting your local public library during the long winter days ahead. Warm. safe, and welcoming spaces await you. And there are lots of things to do, people to meet. Bring a coffee or tea and try out our SAD therapy lamps!

Did you know? The cost of public library service is $21.62 per person, per year in provincial funding. Learn more here https://buff.ly/IAvhw3o

About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I am a Naturopathic Medical Student at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, British Columbia. Naturopathic Doctors (ND's) are primary care physicians who are trained to diagnose and treat a variety of health conditions and diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, skin conditions, allergies, and more! The goal of the Naturopathic Doctor is to find the root cause of the symptom of which the patient is experiencing and to bring the body back to balance and good health. They utilize modern science and natural medicine to offer a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan, all while emphasizing prevention and using therapies that minimize the risk of harm and side effects. A Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree is a 4-year, full-time, graduate level medical program similar to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, and there are currently 7 accredited naturopathic medical schools in North America . . I have my Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with a major in Biology and am passionate about natural, evidence-based medicine, clinical nutrition, and public speaking. On this page, I will be sharing health information, nutritious recipes, facts about naturopathic medicine, and more! I am SO happy to have you along on my journey and I hope to inspire you to live a healthy, happy, and active lifestyle.

Yours in good health, Emily
