🌊 National Drowning Prevention Week may be wrapping up, but water safety is a year-round priority! 🌊

As we enjoy lakes, pools, and coastlines this summer (and beyond!), keep these lifesaving tips in mind:

✅ Always hit the water with a buddy
✅ Wear a properly fitted lifejacket
✅ Keep children within arm’s reach
✅ Swim and boat during daylight hours
✅ Learn how to swim - it’s never too late!
✅ Learn first aid - because seconds matter, and we can help with that! 😉

July 25 is World Drowning Prevention Day

Declared through the the UN General Assembly as "Global Drowning Prevention", is an advocacy event annually to highlight the tragic number affected by drowning and offer solutions to prevent it.

Did you know that over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year?

There are an estimated 320,000 annual drowning deaths worldwide. Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, accounting for 7 percent of all injury-related deaths. Globally, the highest drowning rates are among children 1–4 years, followed by children 5–9 years.

The World Health Organization called for people to do "One Thing" for World Drowning Prevention Day. One thing to help prevent drowning or to be more prepared to help save a life. Help spread awareness or better prepare your family for water safety by wearing blue, enroll in swimming lessons, invest in well fitting life jackets, or be first aid trained are a few ideas.

Water safety tips to help prevent drowning or other water related injuries and to keep you and your family and friends safe.
🛟 Put a lifejacket on before getting on a boat
🛟 Tell someone before you swim or leave on a boat
🛟 Offer to join your friend for a swim so they don't go alone
🛟 Check weather conditions
🛟 Avoid consuming alcohol or drugs before entering the water
🛟 Watch children while they swim and play in water

"Anyone can drown, no one should."
