Prepared together.

Does your family have a home fire escape plan?
A fire can spread quickly, often leaving only minutes to get out safely. Take time to plan 2 ways out of every room, make sure everyone knows how to call 911, and choose a safe meeting place outside the home. Practice your escape plan regularly โ€” especially with children โ€” so everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
Working smoke alarms and a practiced escape plan can save lives. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Emergency Preparedness Week is here! ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ™Œ
(May 3 to 9)

At 13 First Aid, we believe preparedness isnโ€™t just a one-time task: itโ€™s an ongoing cycle of planning, training, and equipping yourself to respond when it matters most.

Emergencies can happen anytime. Being ready means you can protect your family, your workplace, and your community while reducing risk and damage.

Start at home: ๐Ÿ
Make sure your household can stay safe and self-sufficient for at least 3 days.
Include essentials like:
โœ”๏ธ Water & non-perishable food
โœ”๏ธ Medications & personal items
โœ”๏ธ Flashlight & battery-powered radio
โœ”๏ธ First aid kit

Make a family plan: ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿง’โ€๐Ÿง’
โœ”๏ธ Identify local risks (storms, floods, power outages)
โœ”๏ธ Choose a safe meeting place
โœ”๏ธ Talk with your kids about what to do in an emergency

Be proactive at work: ๐Ÿ’ผ
โœ”๏ธ Establish evacuation procedures
โœ”๏ธ Maintain updated emergency contact lists
โœ”๏ธ Train your team and run drills regularly

Preparedness is also a great opportunity to start important conversations at home and build confidence in your kids.

A simple first step? Ensure you have a well-stocked first aid kit and a ready-to-go 72-hour emergency kit.

Letโ€™s work together to build safer homes, stronger workplaces, and more resilient communities.

A quick but important reminder for families.

This past weekend, the Arnprior Fire Department responded to an unauthorized fire in Gillies Grove, a protected area cared for by the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Two youth had started a small fire inside a wooden fort. Thankfully, it was reported and safely extinguished.

This could have ended very differently.

Itโ€™s a good time to talk with your kids about fire safety. Fire is not a toy, and even small fires can spread quickly.

A simple conversation today can prevent a serious emergency tomorrow.

Stay Safe!
13 First Aid and Safety Training

On Saturday, May 2 at approximately 6:00 PM - the Arnprior Fire Department was required to respond for a report of an unauthorized outdoor fire in the Gillies Grove, an old-growth forest owned and protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

An adult observed two children (estimated ages 11โ€“13) tending to a small fire inside a wooden fort which was constructed. Upon discovery the youth fled the area and the adult resident promptly notified the fire department and attempted to extinguish the fire. Crews from the Arnprior Fire Department responded and ensured the fire was fully extinguished.

Residents are reminded that fires are strictly prohibited in this area. This type of activity presents a significant risk and could result in devastating consequences.

While we understand and appreciate that building forts and outdoor play are important parts of childhood, lighting firesโ€”especially in prohibited areas and without responsible adult supervisionโ€”can have serious and far-reaching impacts.

We ask parents, guardians, and our local educators to share this message about fire safety to help us protect our community.

Access to public education resources are available on www.arnprior.ca.

To schedule a station or classroom visit to help reinforce the importance of safe fire behaviours, email afd.general@arnprior.ca

If you have concerns that your child may be experimenting with fire-play help is available. Please contact the Fire Prevention Office of the Arnprior Fire Department at 613-623-4231 ext. 2.
