Although we typically think of the grieving process starting after the loss of a loved one, it can also begin before someone has even passed away. Anticipatory grief is when we become aware that the death of a loved one is a likelihood. This kind of grief carries some of the same symptoms as regular grief -- sadness, anger, depression.
