I swear all the kiddos I pierce are tough as nails💪
Truthfully piercing youngsters is always so rewarding. Getting your first ever piercing is such a special, exciting and also nerve wracking experience. I pride myself on offering a space where my clients are always in charge of their body, especially with my youngest clients!
I believe when we take away all the pressure to get pierced, we have a more calm kiddo who can regulate a bit better. Getting your children’s ears pierced is important to so many families. The excitement that comes from this has good intentions but sometimes can turn into a firm push for the kiddo to get pierced. I find there is a noticeable difference between little clients who’ve felt pressured to get a piercing v.s. little clients who’ve experienced 100% support from guardians whether they want to get pierced or not.
Making sure your child has a good first piercing experience starts before even entering the piercing room. Some things you can do
- Allowing your child to express their own want for a piercing
- Being realistic with what they can expect before, during and after their piercing
*Telling your child a piercing will not hurt gives them and unrealistic expectation for their experience*
- Keeping things as zero pressure as possible
- Consultations with your local, reputable piercer
*Bringing your child in to look at jewelry and talk about the piercing procedure and aftercare is a fantastic way to give them a realistic expectation for the experience.*
That last point I think is super important! As a piercer, I love when my younger clients can chat with me before they get pierced. I find this is a super valuable step for nervous kiddos, letting them know what they can expect at their appointment is great to help put them at ease. Additionally, this reduces the jitters of being in a new space and meeting a strange new person!
