We understand that navigating your health care while your doctor is away can be stressful, but rest assured that the team at the clinic is dedicated to ensuring continuity of care. đź’Šđź“ž We've received an influx of calls asking about how to transfer prescriptions. đź“žđź’Š

This process doesn’t actually require anything from your family doctor. Your doctor just writes the prescription - where you have it filled is totally up to you!

To transfer a prescription, you can contact your preferred pharmacy and ask them to complete a pharmacy to pharmacy transfer. You will need to provide your old pharmacy’s information in order to do so.

Whenever you are receiving a new prescription from your doctor, it is a good idea to inform them of your preferred pharmacy. This way, the prescription can be sent to the right place, right away.

🚪✨ Opening Day at Atikokan Pharmacy ✨🚪

Like any good Atikokan story, there are a few twists on Day One.

The debit machines didn’t get the memo… so this week it’s cash only (or a charge account). 💵🧾

Our first front-store order showed up at about 25% of what we asked for — so the shelves are looking a little bare 🫠

The important part? The doors are unlocked, the lights are on, and we’re officially up and running. 🎉

Thanks to everyone for the patience while things settle into place — the rest will come together soon enough.

The team here at the Atikokan Medical Clinic is thrilled to continue serving as a Practice Ready Ontario clinical field assessment site.

Practice Ready Ontario is the Government of Ontario’s new program for internationally trained family physicians who already have clinical practice experience. It is part of the plan to expand the health care workforce and connect people to care in high need, rural communities like ours.

Dr. Amtul Ahmed will be joining our team in Atikokan on August 11 and will be directly supervised and assessed by family physicians in our practice, as well as at the hospital, in the emergency department, long-term care and home care. We have always been proud to foster a learning environment for the next wave of medical professionals. It is our hope that you will show the same warm reception and respect to Dr. Ahmed that is shown to our regular physicians.

This Friday, June 27, physicians at the Atikokan Medical Clinic are opening their practices. Spaces are limited and are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Rostering to a family physician helps ensure continuity in your medical care.
