Dr. Alan Wolfelt, recognized as one of North America’s leading death educators and grief counselors, hears from journalists, colleagues, friends, family and others. Here he shares his thoughts on anger spurred by violence and how mourning can help drive change.

Traumatic grief is normal grief with additional intense feelings—most often anger—due to the violent nature of an incident. Dr. Alan Wolfelt explains.

The Mummies of Guanajuato, Mexico are a number of naturally mummified bodies interred during a cholera outbreak in 1833. The human bodies appear to have been disinterred between 1870 and 1958. During that time, a local tax was in place requiring a fee to be paid for "perpetual" burial. Some bodies for which the tax was not paid were disinterred and found in a perfectly and naturally mummified state.

The gravestone of John Renie, a house painter who died in 1832 at the age of 33, comprises a rectangular carved 285-letter acrostic puzzle. From the larger H on the center square, the sentence "Here lies John Renie" may be read in any direction—in 46,000 different ways. It is likely that he carved it himself and it is said his intention was to confuse the Devil, ensuring his passage into Heaven.

Our Story

Thompson Funeral Home has been an integral part of the Aurora community for more than 90 years. The Thompson family began providing funeral services to Aurora and neighbouring communities in 1921, when P.M. Thompson first opened Thompson Funeral Home.

Since that time, the business has transferred ownership through 2 more generations of Thompsons.

In 1998, the Thompson family decided to join the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, knowing that when someone chooses a Dignity Memorial provider, they get not only the compassionate care expected from a local business, but also the value they deserve from the largest network of funeral, cremation and memorialization services in North America.
