We had an amazing weekend hosting the Special Friends camp at Barnabas Christian Camp. There were many people who attended each day, and some campers who stayed overnight. It was a honour to be asked to run the camp this year, and an experience that we will cherish.

Thank you to the volunteers from Barnabas who helped out and provided us with everything we needed.

I want to say thank you to the entire team at Inclusive Communities that helped out and was a part of this weekend at Camp. It was an amazing weekend, and I think it was just what the team needed. I am so grateful and proud of what everyone did. Thank you so much.
I also want to give a special thank you to Maria, Leticia and Ana. The 3 of you took charge and made sure this weekend was successful and enjoyable for everyone. I know it took a lot of work, but you all did an amazing job. Thank you.
I honestly struggle to find words with how proud I am of this team.

Reminder of Special Friends Camp this weekend. If you haven't registered, please do so before Saturday so have an idea of how many people will be attending. It will be a busy and fun weekend.

Update - We are not running the overnight portion, we are only doing the activities during the day. Barnabas Christian Camp will be taking care of the overnight.

There will be many activities, as well as lunch and dinner provided.

We haven't been as active on Social Media, but I was to reassure everyone we are still here. We have been continuing with the amazing support, and have been working on a few projects behind the scenes.

I'm excited to announce one of the projects we have been working on. Housing is a crisis right now, especially for people with an intellectual disability who may need support to live independently. Community Living Ontario states there are over 50,000 people on a wait list for support services in Ontario.

We are excited to announce that we have secured a bachelor apartment here in Aylmer. Our plan it to find an individual who would like to rent the apartment and live independently, but requires some support to do that. This would have to be someone who qualifies for support from Inclusive Communities.

If you know of someone who would like to live independently but requires support to do, please reach out to William at Inclusive Communities to discuss what this could look like.

I'm very happy to announce that after 2 years of working on this, Project Lifesaver will now be available in Elgin County. Elgin County OPP contacted me almost 2 years ago with an idea to bring Project LifeSaver to Elgin, and immediately I thought of the people we support who are vulnerable and at risk of wondering or becoming lost.
A lot of time and effort was put into this project, with many presentations to community groups. I'm very proud and honoured to have been a part of this project and excited to see it available for Elgin County.

This Wednesday we will be in London at the Spring Service Fair speaking to families about supports after high school.

If you know any families looking for support, tell them to stop by on Wednesday between 5:00pm-7:00pm. There will be many agencies available, and we are happy to be a part of this.

We are currently hiring for the position of Direct Support Worker at Inclusive Communities. We are an agency that runs 24/7, and provides multiple support options for people with intellectual disabilities. These include a day program, youth programs, 1-1 support, overnight respite, and we provide support for people with complex needs.

In this position you will assist with providing support to adults and youth with intellectual disabilities/mental health needs. This includes administering medications, meal prep, personal care, teaching life skills, assisting with appointments and more.

Because we provide 24/7 support, we are looking for someone who is available to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights and weekends.
