Traffickers arehighly calculated and manipulative, and there are so many different reasons why somone who is being trafficked may not leave/may not be able to leave.
Examples include:
- The trafficker's use of violence or threats of violence (to the survivor themself or to their friends/family members/children/pets, etc.)
- Debt bo***ge (trafficker racking up debt using the survivor's accounts/cards/name)
- Fear of what the trafficker may to do retaliate
- The trafficker supplying all the basic needs for the survivor (food, shelter, clothes, etc.) that they may not have access to if they leave
- The trafficker is providing drugs for survivors who use substances/has given them drugs in order to create substance dependency in the survivor
- Survivors not having any support people they can go to
- Survivors fearing they won't be believed/they will be stigmatized
- The survivor does not recognize they're in a trafficking situation and still sees the trafficker as their partner, protector, drug dealer, friend, etc.

Appointments will only be booked the same day/next day as this is an acute flu/respiratory clinic.

All patients attending must have a valid health card, and wear a mask upon entering the clinic. 😷

Clinics are only available for flu like illnesses, on-going ailments, prescription refills and chronic issues will not be addressed.

Despite having only 16 measles cases across 2020-23, Canada recently lost its measles-free status as cases surged past 5,000 in 2025 alone.

Today's human trafficking myth is that human trafficking MUST involve people being moved over country borders for it to be labelled as trafficking. Human trafficking can involve cross-border movement - we would refer to these cases as international human trafficking. However, someone can be trafficked without ever leaving their home country - these cases are referred to as domestic human trafficking. Domestic trafficking is much more common than you might think; around 90% of known trafficking cases in Canada are domestic.

The definition of human trafficking involves three components: the act (recruiting, harbouring, transporting, transferring a person), the means (through use of threat, coercion, abduction, abuse of power and vulnerability, fraud, or giving benefits to those in control of a person) for the purpose of exploitation (sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery).
