For patients with COPD, a simple oxygen mask can mean the difference between stability and crisis.

In a recent case study, a patient receiving oxygen through a traditional non-rebreather mask experienced CO₂ narcosis—caused by an insufficient flow rate that allowed exhaled CO₂ to build up inside the mask. Despite intervention, the patient never recovered.
