Are you struggling with how you look & feel and have no idea where to go from here?

Ya, it’s not just you, my friend 🫣. The leading cause of weight gain in adults is due to decreased activity levels. This has numerous implications that can further complicate the situation.

1. When we become less active, our bodies start losing lean muscle tissue, which is crucial for maintaining a healthy metabolism.

2. As a result, you guessed it, it becomes harder to shed those extra pounds, creating a self-perpetuating problem.

3. Additionally, decreased activity levels can lead to a lower injury threshold, making it even more challenging to engage in exercise, or even daily tasks!

But guess what? We have been working with busy women for years, understanding their very real barriers to exercise. In just one month, by meeting up twice a week for one hour, we can help you feel more confident in your body and start crushing your goals 💪🏻

Whether you are a beginner, a pregnant or postpartum woman, or someone with chronic injuries, we have the expertise to guide you through your fitness journey. We promise you will have a blast while working towards your goals, and you will be glad you took the first step 😊

Hey new mamas!

Are you looking for a gentle and supportive way to exercise and learn about postnatal health? Join me for our outdoor doctor led postnatal exercise and education class, where you can bring your babies and connect with other moms.

🌳 I will guide you through a variety of exercises that are safe and effective for the early postpartum period including pelvic floor and core strengthening, stretching/mobility work and low-impact cardio. You'll also learn about topics such as:

- Diastasis recti and how to manage it
- Postpartum nutrition and hydration
- Sleep and stress management
- Babywearing and stroller fitness tips
- Self-care and body positivity

👶 Your babies are welcome to join you in the class, and I will always provide modifications and options for incorporating them into the exercises. You'll also have the opportunity to socialize with other moms and share your experiences!

📅 The class takes place every Monday and Wednesday afternoons at Shear Park in Barrie. You can sign up for the series in my bio. Can’t wait to see you all in the park!

Sunshine, exercise, and community ☀️💕

We have felt it too, it’s been a long dark winter in Ontario. Chances are, you haven’t been hitting the gym as often, getting those steps in, or moving your body as much.

It’s also likely that those shorter winter days also have you being a little less social.

We also know how this translates into symptoms, since that’s what Dr. Meg and I treat all day 😉. Most of our patients are feeling stiff & achy, unmotivated, short on time, and unsure where to start their exercise journey.

But we also think we have the solution….. (drumroll please!) 🥁

Come join us for Springfit!

Dr. Meg and I will be running an all abilities & insanely fun outdoor strength series in Barrie! Bring your kiddos (or escape quietly out the back door without them) and join us this June!

📣 Okay ladies, we have hinted a little bit, but here it is!

Dr. Megan Gibson and I are going to be running an all abilities outdoor strength and conditioning series starting in June! 🥳

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to program, scope out the perfect location, and get some content together showcasing the series 😎

Some of the deets:
☀️June 13 - July 16 (skipping the long weekend and July 9th due to holidays)
☀️Tues/Sunday evenings 7:30pm
☀️ Shear park in Barrie
☀️ All abilities - new to exercise, pregnant, postpartum, sweat experts all welcome!
☀️ Any/all kiddos welcome

We have also decided that this current weather is depressing and we all need a mood boost so we are going to be giving our first 10 registrants 20% off the whole series! (normally $150 down to $120)

This year we have also made 3, 6 and 10 class passes available for those who may be travelling or can only attend once a week.

The link will be in my Bio and stories. Of course reach out to one of us if you have any questions

I’ve had a lot of good discussions lately with some close friends. I was updating them on my life and they asked “….but who takes care of you?”

It’s simple, I do.

Another friend & mentor of mine also said something that I thought was kind of little harsh at the time and stuck with me.

“No one owes you anything Ash”

Well, damn. 😂

I want to share this, not necessarily to showcase the brutal honesty that I respond well to, but because the advice continues to change my life and I hope it helps you too — whatever you are navigating.

In a sense it is kind of liberating, but its a lot of responsibility too.

I had a lot of things in my life all change at once. Most I can see now were positive, but every one of them hard as hell. I made a lot of big changes in my professional life, learned to navigate life as a single mom, and lost some big friendships. My anxiety is still crippling at times.

For what it’s worth, here are some lessons that have helped me:

✨ your health and well-being is paramount in your life. If you don’t take care of yourself, it’s almost impossible to show up as a good business owner, partner, parent, friend…..period.

✨ If you consistently don’t feel good when leaving interactions with a friend, colleague, someone you are dating etc, Walk away. Seriously life is too short to feel insecurity and sh*tty. You owe it to yourself.

✨ consistently reflect back on your end game goals (which is totally allowed to change, btw). If that person, job, whatever is interfering with that, do your best to trim it away. You’re getting in your own way.

✨ take the scary first steps. When I look back at the best things that have ever happened to me, it pretty much involved an aneurysm first.

✨ my sister is somehow always right 🤷🏼‍♀️

There is no “one size fits all approach” in healthcare. We all have different starting points, goals, responsibilities, resources etc.

However, I’ve been working with women for several years now, and there are some trends…

Let’s take some time to break down some of the common training mistakes I see in clinical practice (and why they are a problem)

1 - You’re avoiding weight/strength training.

Lean muscle mass is metabolically active tissue and helps with blood glucose regulation, insulin resistance, and ~ million disorders across multiple body systems. It also gives you the toned/strong appearance that most people are striving for.

2 - Not enough calories.

This is a very consistent problem I see. You NEED energy to do your day to day tasks. You need the materials to build muscle.

3 - Not sleeping enough.

This one is tough and may not be as easily modified, especially if you are a new parent. But sleep is foundational to health and needs to be a top priority. Your ability to put in full effort at the gym/life is very affected by sleep quality.

4 - You hate what you are doing.

The best type of exercise is something that you are actually going to enjoy, and therefore do consistently. Try new activities, invite a friend along, try a ladies only gym, experiment a little! Find things you love doing, and it won’t feel so hard, trust me.

5 - You need to stop staring at the damn scale.

I’d like to challenge you to look at just about any other metric — how do you feel? How are your clothes fitting? Are you lifting heavier weights? Are you now a one-trip-grocery-bag-carrying-wonder? These things matter so much more.

👉🏻 I work with women who want to feel confident, strong, and are looking to learn about nutrition so they can have a better relationship with food.
