We know shame is a big one. It makes us feel awful to the point of wanting to hide from the world and those we love. But, did you know shame can become stronger by our actions or inaction? Or that shame can weaken and we can experience less shame by our actions (depending on what is causing the feelings of shame)? According to Clark (2020) who speaks from a CBT perspective, avoidance, passivity, and behaviour can all increase our feelings of shame and come at a cost to our personal life. Let's meet our clinic owner! Nichole is both a Registered Social Worker and Registered Psychotherapist who holds a Masters Degree in Counselling. She has been working in the mental health field since 2008 and in 2022 she opened Sunflower Therapy and Consulting in Barrie, ON with a goal of providing safe, supportive, and empowering holistic counselling services to adults. Nichole has always believed in seeing value in each person and fostering the conditions needed for personal growth. Her beliefs come from first hand experience with her own healing journey as a person who experiences chronic illness. She specializes in evidenced-based therapies such as CBT and EMDR. Her passion is to incorporate holistic modalities such as mindfulness, reiki, and ear acupuncture because she recognizes that most people respond positively to a broad range of healing techniques. We are seeking 6 adults who want to come together for 6 weeks to create a safe space to self-explore, learn, heal, relax, strengthen their connection to self or just be.

We are hosting a 90 minute group where reiki, ear acupuncture, meditation, writing prompts, and sharing will be offered. You will be invited to take part in all the offerings or just the ones you are guided to.

This is a personal interest/ personal development group rather than a therapy group.

Please bring your favourite journal and dress in comfortable clothes.

Dates: November 7, 14, 21, 28, December 5, 12.

Time: 7pm- 8:30pm

Location is 521 Dunlop Street West in Barrie, ON.

Cost: $55+ HST per session (6 week commitment)

Consider doing kind things for other people as often as possible. According to Greenberger and Padesky (2016), when we are kind to other's, we experience a boost in mood. Overtime, we tend to feel better about ourself, more connected to others, and happier as a result.

It's mid day and time to check in with yourself and how you're doing. We invite you to take a moment when you see this to check in with yourself to see how you're doing? How's your day going? How are you feeling? What are your thoughts like? Is there anything that needs to change? These check in's may seem simple and pointless but we recommend them at least once a day- three times a day if possible! After all, how else will you be able to make changes and meet your needs if you don't take a moment to bring awareness to them.

Not every day is going to be a great day- or even a good day. We want you to know that's "normal" and we are here to help you through it. Normal doesn't mean ignore it, or "you have nothing to complain about", as you might sometimes hear. It simply means changing mood is a normal human process that may sometimes be better navigated with the support of a therapist.
