What is AAC?

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. These devices and systems help individuals who have difficulty using verbal speech communicate effectively.

At IBI, we focus on teaching meaningful communication skills — whether through speech, visuals, or AAC technology — because every child deserves to be heard. 💙

ABA vs. IBI — what’s the difference?🧩

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the science of understanding behaviour. It uses evidence-based strategies to teach new skills and reduce behaviours that may interfere with learning. ABA principles can be applied across settings — at home, school, and in the community — supporting communication, social skills, independence, and daily living skills.

Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) is a structured and comprehensive application of ABA. It involves individualized programming, consistent data collection, and a higher level of intensity. IBI is typically delivered 1:1 for multiple hours per week.

In short: ABA is the foundation. IBI is a more intensive, structured model of ABA therapy designed for individuals who benefit from a higher level of support.
