Nope… these aren’t normal nail clippers.
Clinic-grade tools = better leverage, better control, and way less strain on our hands.
For thick, stubborn, ‘angry’ nails? This is how they go from impossible… to effortless.

This machine is called a medical nail drill (or Dremel), and it’s one of the most important tools we use in chiropody.
It allows us to safely and precisely reduce thickened nails, smooth rough or damaged nail edges, and gently remove hard skin and callus without cutting into healthy tissue.
Because it has multiple attachments and adjustable speeds, we can tailor it to each person, whether someone has:
• Thick or fungal-looking nails
• Painful callus or corns
• Nails that are difficult to trim safely at home
• Sensitive skin that needs a gentler approach
It’s used every single day in practice because it helps us work accurately, comfortably, and efficiently, while improving both foot health and comfort.
Most importantly, it lets us do this in a controlled, medical way, which is especially important for patients with diabetes, circulation concerns, or fragile skin.

Warts vs Corns — they’re NOT the same 👀
They can look similar, but they’re caused by very different things.
✨ Corns
• Caused by pressure or friction
• Often form over bony areas
• Usually improve when pressure is reduced (shoes, padding, orthotics)
🦠 Warts
• Caused by a virus (HPV)
• Can be painful when squeezed from the sides
• Often interrupt normal skin lines
• May spread if not treated properly
Treating a wart like a corn (or vice versa) can make things worse, which is why a proper assessment matters.
If you’re dealing with a painful spot on your foot and you’re not sure what it is, a chiropody assessment is the best first step.

“What’s this?” 🤔
This is a shockwave therapy device; a non-invasive treatment we use to help stimulate healing in stubborn, painful tissues.
Shockwave works by delivering targeted sound waves to the area of concern. These waves help:
• increase blood flow
• stimulate tissue repair
• reduce pain and inflammation
• support the body’s natural healing process
✨ Who may benefit?
Shockwave therapy is often used for patients with ongoing or chronic foot and ankle pain that hasn’t fully responded to rest, stretching, or other conservative care.
🦶 Common conditions we may use shockwave for include:
• Plantar fasciitis / heel pain
• Achilles tendon pain
• Tendon injuries
• Chronic soft-tissue pain in the foot or ankle
Every patient is different, shockwave isn’t for everyone and isn’t a stand-alone solution. A chiropody assessment is always the first step to determine if this treatment is appropriate as part of your care plan.
If you’ve been dealing with persistent foot or heel pain, this may be one of several options we consider to help you move more comfortably again.

Walking on hard floors in just socks?
It might feel harmless, but for many people this can trigger or worsen heel pain.
Hard surfaces don’t absorb shock. When you walk barefoot or in socks only, your heel takes the full impact with every step, especially first thing in the morning or after long days on your feet.
This added stress can aggravate common causes of heel pain like:
• plantar fasciitis
• fat pad irritation
• tight calves and Achilles tension
A little support goes a long way. Wearing supportive footwear or proper house shoes indoors can help reduce strain and protect your heels during daily activities.
If heel pain is becoming a regular issue, a chiropody assessment can help identify the cause and guide appropriate treatment options.
👣 Your feet do a lot for you, even at home.

❄️ Brrr… Happy New Year! ❄️
2026 has arrived with a serious dose of winter 🥶
Our clinic is officially wrapped in snow and icicles, and if your feet could talk, they’d probably be saying “same.”
With all this snow, many of us are living in tall, heavy winter boots for long stretches of the day. While they keep us warm, clunky boots can definitely make feet work harder and sometimes trigger aches, fatigue, or flare-ups of foot pain.
As we step into the new year, it’s a great reminder to:
• Choose boots that fit well and support your feet
• Take breaks from heavy footwear when you can
• Pay attention to new or lingering foot discomfort
Here’s to a cozy, snowy start to 2026 ❄️
Wishing you a happy, healthy New Year from all of us at Footprint, and warm feet wherever winter takes you!

Three foot things I wish people knew sooner 👣
• Foot pain isn’t something you should just “push through”
• Morning stiffness or pain is a sign something isn’t happy
• Foot issues don’t always stay in the feet, they can affect knees, hips, and back
Most foot concerns are very manageable when they’re addressed early.
A proper assessment helps us understand why pain is happening and what options may help.
If something has been bothering you for a while, it’s worth having it checked.

Another interesting case from the clinic 👣
A patient came in with a persistent, painful spot on the ball of her foot. We initially tried conservative, non-invasive treatment, but when her symptoms didn’t resolve, further investigation was needed.
An X-ray revealed a large foreign body embedded in the soft tissue. Under local anesthetic, we were able to safely remove it, which turned out to be a sharp piece of glass.
The patient is now recovering at home with appropriate wound care and antibiotics. She has no neurological concerns, is otherwise healthy, and had no recollection of stepping on glass or breaking anything at home.
This is a good reminder that foreign body injuries can happen quickly and sometimes with very little initial pain, especially when walking barefoot. Wearing footwear indoors can help reduce the risk of these injuries, even in familiar environments.
If you’re experiencing ongoing foot pain that isn’t improving, it’s worth having it assessed.

Flat Feet 👣 Not Always a Problem… Until They Are
Flat feet (low arches) mean your arch sits closer to the ground when standing.
For some people, that’s totally fine. For others, it can lead to foot fatigue, heel pain, ankle strain, or even knee and back discomfort.
Common signs include:
• Tired, achy feet
• Pain with standing or walking
• Uneven shoe wear
Flat feet don’t always need treatment, but pain is your body’s signal that something isn’t working well.
A proper chiropody assessment can help determine:
✔️ How your feet are functioning
✔️ If support or offloading may help
✔️ The right next steps for comfort and function
