Dear all of our lovely patients:

Great news - our clinic is officially re-open for appointments! It has been a long process, but we are officially turning the page and are looking forward to treating all of you again.

Luckily, we have been able to find an office space with multiple rooms to work out of - we will now be located at 15 Cedar Pointe Drive, Unit 23, Barrie, L4N 5R7.
You can find us inside of Ideal Chiropractic.

Paul Zheng, who is our main practitioner, suffered third degree burns during our house fire, and is now attending rehab 3x/week as an out-patient. Please be aware that his appearance is forever altered by this horrible incident. But for the most part, he is recovering well.
Thank you to all who have sent him and our family well wishes, and offered help to us in any way possible. We will forever be extremely grateful for your support and kindness.

As you might imagine, Paul will be slowly getting back to a new “normal,” and will be practicing only a few days a week, with limited hours per day. To help support the clinic, we have another practitioner, Jamie Chu, who will be treating patients as well. Jamie had already started working with us prior to the house fire, and some of you have already met her.

Jamie has been a Registered Acupuncturist for over three years, and has had extensive clinical experience working in busy clinics in Barrie, and the Greater Toronto Area.
She has completed her Chinese Herbal Medicine studies, and will be looking to write the Pan-Canadian board exams later this year to become licensed as a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner.

In addition to her clinical work experience, she has also recently began working at Georgian College this summer as an Academic Technologist, taking on a role where she is supporting supervisors and students in the Acupuncture program (which she graduated from), during clinical hours and mentoring students in open lab sessions.

We hope that you can all welcome Jamie to the practice with open arms. And if Paul’s limited schedule at the moment is full or doesn’t quite work with your schedule — that you could book in with Jamie and give her a try! She is known for her gentle needling technique, kind and understanding demeanor, and is super attentive to her patient’s concerns while providing effective treatment results.

Our online booking system is now open for bookings! You could book with us online at zhengcmd.janeapp.com, or give us a call at 705-733-0788, or text/call us at 705-718-2328.

Here are our practitioner hours as of Wed June 18, 2025:

Fatty liver develops into liver cancer in just 4 steps

In recent years, the incidence of fatty liver is increasing. At the same time, people with fatty liver do not feel obvious discomfort. Many people discover it accidentally during physical examination. Just because it doesn't hurt, doesn't mean it's a minor ailment that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Luo Xiaojun, attending physician of the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Oncology Department of Chongqing Cancer Hospital, introduced in an interview with Health Times in 2018 that there are four steps from fatty liver to liver cancer:
fatty liver
hepatitis
liver cirrhosis
liver cancer

In addition, some steatohepatitis can directly transform into liver cancer without the formation of liver cirrhosis, which needs everyone's attention.

Eliminate fatty liver, start changing from these 9 points

1. Eat 80% full
Pay attention to diet control, eat until you are 80% full, and reduce calorie intake.

2. Increase dietary fiber intake
Appropriately increase dietary fiber intake, such as whole grains, beans, fungi, vegetables, potatoes, fruits, etc. are rich in cellulose. For example, kidney beans are rich in dietary fiber, but they must be cooked, and dry stir-frying is not recommended.

3. Choose high-quality protein
Once found to have fatty liver, most people begin to "quit meat". But in fact, Guo Peng, chief physician of the Department of Liver Diseases, Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, published an article in the Health Times in 2016 to remind that protein can protect liver cells and can promote the recovery and regeneration of damaged liver cells. Therefore, protein-containing diets such as soy products, lean meat, fish and shrimp should be increased, and eggs and milk should not be eaten too much.

4. Eat less irritating food
Dr. Guo Peng reminded to eat less spicy and irritating food, such as onion, ginger, green onion, garlic, pepper, coffee, etc., to avoid increasing appetite, and to drink less broth, chicken soup, fish soup, etc., to prevent weight gain. Cooking methods should be mainly steamed, boiled, stewed, stewed and boiled. ③

5. Control fat intake
According to Dr. Guo Peng, those with fatty liver should limit their intake of fatty foods. Usually, it is advisable to eat oily food at 0.5-0.8 grams per kilogram of standard body weight per day. ③

6. Fruits with low fructose
Cheng Shuquan, Chief Physician of the Liver Disease Department of the Third People's Hospital of Guilin, Guangxi, published an article on the WeChat public account of "Popular Health Journal" in 2023. Research shows that fructose intake from fructose supplements such as sucrose and high fructose corn syrup is associated with obesity and non-alcoholic obesity. There is a strong correlation with epidemics such as chronic fatty liver.

Low-sugar fruits generally refer to fruits with a sugar content of less than 10%, and the calories contained in 100 grams are between 20 kcal and 40 kcal. People with fatty liver can eat about 250 grams of low-sugar fruit every day. For example, lemon, grapefruit, cherry, yacon, guava, pear, apple, etc. ④

7. Drink a cup of lipid-lowering tea often
Wu Wenbo, director of the preparation room of Shijiazhuang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hebei Province, interviewed by Health Times in 2016, pointed out that hawthorn contains ursolic acid, which can reduce the deposition of animal fat on the blood vessel wall. Therefore, for "fatty liver" or obese people It is said that eating some hawthorn can eliminate food and fat, and it is a good liver protection food.

There are many ways to eat hawthorn. Please ask your Chinese TCM practitioner to know more details. Because everybody is different too.

8. Low-intensity, long-duration aerobic exercise
Dr. Guo Peng recommends low-intensity, long-term aerobic exercise. For example, jogging, medium-fast walking (115-125/minute), cycling, up and down stairs, climbing, playing badminton, kicking shuttlecock, patting ball, dancing, radio gymnastics, skipping rope and swimming.

9. Pay attention to weight control
Generally speaking, the process of obesity is to get fat to the liver first, then to the waist, and finally the overall body weight exceeds the standard. If the waist circumference of men exceeds 2 feet 7, and the waist circumference of women exceeds 2 feet 3, attention should be paid.
