Last week several large wildland fires in the Red Lake fire management area were called out, including Red Lake 62, Red Lake 99 and most notably Red Lake 12 which reached 196,974.1 hectares in size.

Even when fires look “out,” deep-burning fires can become active under the right conditions. Assessing and confirming full extinguishment of these large fires takes considerable time and careful observation. We extend our sincere thanks to all staff who were involved in suppressing these challenging fires.

As of this update, there are no active wildland fires in Ontario’s Northwest Region.
