When I say air quality is important I mean it! 🤧

You can do all the exercises and nasal rinses in the world but if the air you are breathing day in and out is constantly irritating your

🦠Nasal passages
🦠Throat
🦠TONSILS AND ADENOIDS - ding ding ding 🛎️
🦠Lungs

Then it’s a losing battle ☠️ especially if you are mouth breathing, not getting that initial filtration through your nose 👃

I had my ducts cleaned today and I was shocked at the filth that came out 🤢

My air purifier was picking up invisible particles in the air and it actually got up to almost 500!! 🤯

No wonder when I dust it’s back the next day, if not before that

No wonder we’re stuffy 🤧

💨Air purifiers
💧Air humidifiers
🧽 Cleaning carpets/rugs (or removing completely)
🛌 Increased frequency of washing bedding
🧸 No stuffies on the bed (they collect dust)

All help make the air you and your family are breathing the best possible

Get your ducts and furnace cleaned
Replace the furnace filter

Niagara Duct Cleaning came and did it, Matt was great, I would highly recommend them

Next up are the carpets 🙃

I get asked all the time “When should my tongue be on my palate?” ❓❓❓

✔️The answer is always unless you’re talking or chewing

Correct tongue posture is one of the main things we work on to support healthy breathing and jaw development

The whole tongue should be lightly suctioned to the roof of your mouth, not just the tip! 👅

This stabilizes the jaw, allowing you to keep your lips together and promotes nasal breathing while also pulling your tongue out of your airway 👃

Your tongue must be strong enough to get up and stay up there 💪

Check in with yourself - Where is your tongue right now? Is it on the roof of your mouth? Is it in the bottom of your mouth? Is just the tip of your tongue touching “the spot”?

TMJ Massage and Fascial Release ✨✨

When I heard our new RMT at does TMJ massage and Fascial release I had to try it

TMJ massage targets the muscles around the jaw (masseter, temporalis, pterygoids)

It can help with:
• Jaw pain & tenderness – reduces muscle tightness from clenching or grinding
• Clicking, popping, or locking – improves joint mobility
• Headaches & migraines – especially tension headaches that start at the temples
• Ear symptoms – fullness, ringing, or ear pain not caused by infection
• Neck & shoulder tension – jaw muscles are deeply connected to posture

It is a great compliment to myofunctional therapy for those suffering with TMJ issues and restrictive fascia

It can be quite tender for those suffering with jaw or facial pain so be prepared 🔥

Initial assessment and treatment is 45 minutes long with subsequent TMJ massages lasting 30 minutes

Things you can add to the bedtime routine when you’re sick to help maximize and support nasal breathing 👃

The Navage is my favourite thing to use multiple times during the day when I’m sick or stuffy, but especially before bed. Helping clear out any debris and reducing inflammation for better breathing

Little kids typically will not tolerate a full nasal rinse with a Netty pot so I recommend saline sprays like Xlear as part of the nightly routine, even when not sick.

Air Humidifiers help by
Loosen mucus → easier breathing and coughing it out
Soothe irritated airways → less throat pain and coughing at night
Reduces nasal dryness & nosebleeds
Improves sleep by reducing nighttime coughing and congestion

Especially helpful in the dry winter months 🥶

Nasal Dilators 👃- like breathe right strips, are a staple when congested at night. Opening up the nostrils to get more air to promote better sleep. 💤
You could even wear them during the day when congested to help with nasal breathing as well.

They have come so far and nothing makes me more proud than when I go check on my kids and they are sleeping with their mouths closed and breathing through their nose 👃

So many parents tell me their kids sleep fine but all they know is that they go to bed, and as long as they don’t wake up and come into their rooms, they think they slept fine.

It’s important to go and check their breathing, is their mouth open, grinding their teeth, are they in a weird position, sweaty or even snoring?? All red flags you wouldn’t otherwise know about unless you went and checked 🚩
