Bovine Colostrum ✨🥛
The nutrient-dense “first milk”, produced after calving, contains a wide spectrum of biologically active compounds - immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, growth factors, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids - components that have been studied for their roles in immune support, gastrointestinal integrity (treating diarrhea and leaky gut), and tissue recovery.
Colostrum is best known for its role in supporting gut health. Its immunoglobulins can bind certain microbes in the digestive tract, while growth factors help maintain the structure of the intestinal lining. This makes it a popular nutritional addition for dogs needing digestive and immune support, particularly during times of stress or dietary transition, by managing under or overactive immune systems without shutting them down, as some immunosuppressant medications do.
Research also suggests colostrum may help modulate normal inflammatory responses, support skin and connective tissue repair, ward off toxins, and regulate blood cell production.
When mixed into a paste, colostrum can be applied topically to skin irritations such as abscesses, superficial wounds, rashes and hotspots, to support the body’s natural healing processes.
*Because colostrum is a concentrated source of bioactive compounds, gradual introduction is recommended. A common starting amount is approx. 1/16 tsp per 25 lb of body weight, increasing slowly as tolerated.
