So… we did a 5-day Sardine Fast 🐟
This one started with my husband (thanks to the internet 😅). He brought it to me, I did a bit of digging into the nutrition and research on sardines — omega-3s, minerals, simple whole-food protein, ability to stimulate GLP-1, normalizes blood sugar and cholesterol, etc — and decided to join him in the experiment.
Here’s how it went:
Day 1:
“I’ve got this.” I actually like sardines, so it felt easy. Energy was steady.
Day 2:
A few energy dips and some hunger. Honestly, pretty typically the most challenging day for me any restrictive protocol.
Day 3:
Okay… enthusiasm for sardines is fading 😬
But — energy was good, mood felt stable, and overall I actually felt really good.
Day 4:
More of a mental game at this point. A few dips, definitely eating sardines out of commitment vs enjoyment.
Day 5:
Couldn’t do it. The thought of sardines made me nauseated, so I skipped them altogether 🙃
What I took from it:
This is kind of a hybrid between a fasting-mimicking approach, a mono-food diet, and a carnivore-style reset.
And interestingly… we both felt really good coming out of it — steady energy, less mindless snacking, and a bit of a metabolic “reset”.
It was hard, but rewarding.
Definitely not a long-term diet — but as a short experiment in simplicity and awareness, it was pretty eye-opening. Going forward, I'll be looking to include more sardines in my diet for these health benefits, and possibly a similar-style fast in the future!
Curious — would you ever try something like this?
